on my XPS M1530, i play call of duty 4, at one point the screen goes completely black, and stays like that for like 10 minutes until i power off the machine.

Can you alt-tab out of the game and close it from the task manager?

    What driver are you using?

Also, have you downloaded the latest patch for COD4?

In that case, head over to laptopvideo2go.com for some better video drivers. Make sure you download the correct version (XP/Vista 32/64 bit) and follow the guide there on how to install them.

I'm using 169.09 and it works well. Other good ones are 169.04 and 169.25

Try to alt-tab as soon as the screen goes black. I was having this problem and if you do it fast enough it showed the ndmmk (or whatever) nvidia driver has stopped responding error popup in the lower right of the desktop. If its that then I dont know what to tell you. I havent gotten a chance to test solutions to this yet. Try earlier drivers like crash says. Also if you are overclocking it should work fine if you dont. Thats how mine went anyway.

Actually I was suggesting newer drivers since compman91 is using the original Dell driver.

Yup 100% agree. You need some new drivers...official Dell or what ever company drivers are never the newest ones.
