when i play on that res, the game starts to lag a little, tried going a little lower still the same. what are the optimal settings for cod4 on a 8600M GT?

You're going to need to move down at least two notches in the resolution. 1920 is very high res (was originally only for 24" screens, mind you that was 1920x1200).

I play 1920 x 1080 on my 24" with an 8800.. with an 8600m, as said above, 1280x800 maxed, no shadows!

    Another problem solved, happy gaming!

You are testing a mid-range GPU's mettle at Full High Definition(Full HD)!
To game at those resolutions you need to spend a lot of money on 256-bit or 384-bit cards! Its certainly GPU limited.

    I don't know what you're thinking trying 1920x1200 on a 8600M GT.

i have sli 8600gt ddr3 cards and i run cod4 and waw at 1080p with everything on high including textures(max v high), af 1/3 on the slider, no vsync, and a healthy overclock. it looks very nice, a much better gaming experience overall than crysis (which i run at 1280x720 at mostly high settings)

You should be able to run it fine at 1440x900 with extra settings and everything on except shadows, spec. map, and soften smoke.

Ya, I run Crysis at 1280x800/High too. Scaling doesn't really look THAT bad, and the extra features are worth more than the higher res IMHO.

yeah. my clocks are pretty close to yours, but you have extra SPs, a 256bit memory bus, and 256mb more vram. 1920x1080 really pushes the 256mb of vram i have to the max, which is why i chose to not run the highest texture resolutions. running out of vram causes a massive performance hit, but each card has a bit longer to render a frame because of the alternate frame rendering. overall i think this 8600m gt sli setup is one of the better setups outside of the high end 8800m/9800m. i'd really like to get my hands on a 9800m gts sli setup, i think it would fly when tweaked.

Specular Map makes the engine look great, that should be on. Shadows on if 1280*800, off if 1440*900, soft shadows never on.

Yea but it takes a big hit on your fps. With my setting I am able to average 50 fps on most map on a 30 man server with a 8600m gt ddr3
