    Hi guys,

Sorry i'm posting a hardware question here...I am seriously thinking about picking up an HP zv5000z. All the specs fit my needs, but i had one question. How "weak" is the video card/graphics processing? I keep reading that it is barely "acceptable" for gaming, but still very weak etc. I read that the gpu in this notebook is 3 yrs old? Does that mean some of the newer games can't be played on it altogether? or will it just be slower/less detailed? Will i be able to play the new GTA San Andreas on it, for example?

    thanks

If this is the AMD64 unit with the Nvidia 440 GPU, then the main this GPU will probably play the game, but with mid to low frame rates. You will also not get the graphics "enhancements" the game provides since the GPU doesn't support DirectX 9.0. My brother was capable of playing Doom 3 on his P3 866Mhz w/an Nvidia Geforce 3 GPU, but the frame rates were average to slow with most, to all features disabled and set to low. This GPU is really meant for games approx 1 year and older. If you're just looking for an inexpensive unit that will allow you to play the game (not well I might add, possibly not even), then this GPU will do just fine. If you want to play the games well and at decent frame rates, you need a much better GPU. IMHO. Regarding playing GTA, no one can guarantee the performance/compatibility on this unit since it's not available yet.
