can i run bf3 with the gt 540m and i5 2410 at around 50-60 fps at lowest settings and lower than its native resolution (1366x768). i dont play games at native resolutions anyways because i prefer it to be a bit fuzzy

hi and welcome to nbr
only way is to try it and find out as the 540 card isnt that strong unless its overclocked. -
It should play at about 40fps with all settings low at 1366x768. Maybe drop resolution to 1024x600 (lowest).
-
overclock the gt540m, set it to 720p and put settings on low with the post process AA on "high"
you'll get 40fps+ but 60fps is pushing it
am playing at 768p with a heavily overclocked gt555m and a mix of high and medium settings, i'll get 40fps+ but this card is a fair bit more powerful -
In Bad Company 2 quads where a must but i think BF3 is more forgiving. -
well im looking at buying an asus k53 with gt 540m and i5 2410 and i wanna keep the temps under 70c if possible.
and i dont know how to overclock Q.Q -
50-60 FPS is asking for way too much with those system specs.
The K53 (i5 / 540) is listed as 839.99$. Is that how much you're paying for it?
Because if you are, for an extra 130$~ish, you can get a Malibal Lotus with an i7-2nd gen & 560m, which is much, much better for gaming (especially in BF3). -
well i plan on playing the game on the lowest possible settings and i can play at a resolution of 800x600 hwo will the frame rates be there?
-
I think 30~40 is possible but over that you are pushing the limit of your gt 540m. But I think you'd even be able to raise some settings however.
-
-
Lol yes. I can't imagine BF3 running below native resolution. >.<
-
i always crank it down a bit
-
I don't play at native resolution all the time and in some games it's fine, but 800x600 is just too small. You won't even be able to distinguish the other soldiers' faces.
-
oh. ok. um im just curious about how to over clock and i was wondering if i could keep my laptop under 70c under load
-
With my 5730 (weaker than your 540 iirc) I'm getting 35-45 FPS with high textures, "low" post-AA, and everything else low/off. It's still a great looking game, and very playable. This is at 1366x768 btw, if I drop to 720p I get ~40 minimum and at 1024x600 I get about 50-60. This is with a 740qm though, your dual-core i5 might be holding you back.

Thanks for posting. -
youre not playing in full screen right? Just play in windowed mode around 720p or 1 step lower and youll probably get around 40fps, not sure if anything above.
my rc512 w/ 525m (its 2nd gen i7 though) ran full screen on medium-ish to 1-2 high settings at around 30fps fullscreen 720p (you can check the video by googling "rc512" )
the game was playable with 30fps (dipped below to 25-30 in outside environments) and it looked gorgeous.
With lowest settings (didnt upload the lowest video yet) it was averaging 30-35fps and it looked gorgeous as well. -
I play the game at 720p and looks fine. I don't see much difference between 720 and 1080p tbh.
-
while were still on the topic of playability and what not; will my system run BF3 on medium-high settings on 1080p with 40fps or higher? or should I step down the resolution
specs in the sig -
so my playing in window mode increases performance? i never knew that haha. are the 2nd gen i5 chips significantly better than the 1st gen? will you be able to see any differences and whatnot

I guess you have a one of a kind setup where CPU is the bottleneck. Everybody else has discovered CPU has little impact and the GPU is the bottleneck.

- Even an Athlon II Dual Core isn't bottlenecking a GTX 580! Which is so much more powerful than your 5650M.
can i run bf3 50-60 fps?
