Modern games are all being built with widescreen in mind. Widescreen has begun to dominate the notebook market and has started invading the desktop LCD market as well. You really can't go wrong buying a widescreen laptop. Even if you think your game doesn't support it, odds are there is a way to enable widescreen or manually set it. Many games have released patches to add widescreen support ala F.E.A.R. in patch 1.08.

you just play at a standard resalution, like 1024 by 768, it will strech to fill the screen by default, but you can turn that off so it doesn't strech.

Thats strange..
I play 1920x1200 on my notebook.... with C&C 3... beat it twice already. -
Cnc3 is very new....it doesn't support Widescreen?
Rome Total War supported widescreen 2 years ago or moreI would think it's very standard for games now.

In the Total War series, a wider view isn't going to drastically impact the game because you can manipulate the camera.
I guess that is the rationale, I think it is silly and they should just put in Widescreen anyway. -
Eh? C&C3 supports widescreen natively (and this is confirmed on Widescreen gaming forum.) I played the demo at 1680x1050 on my old desktop.
Almost every modern game (except the Battlefield series - stupid EA) supports widescreen, and many modern games are actually designed specifically with a widescreen FOV in mind (i.e., Bioshock, where widescreen is how the game is "meant" to be played).
There's almost no chance that any future game (especially big ticket games like Crysis or Unreal Tournament) won't support widescreen. And if older games don't support widescreen natively (i.e., Doom 3) you can usually just edit the .ini to force the resolution. -
C&C3 can be runned at 1280X800 (16:10 aspect ratio) I do it all the time.

Latest games are naturally designed for latest technology...
can most games be played on widescreen notbooks?
