hi. there was this game i used to play, i swore it was called maelstrom and i am pretty sure it was for the PC. i played it about... 15 - 18 years ago.

basically it was a game where you had a ship and you would fly on planets and mine the planets for minerals, then take it back up to a station and keep doing it. i wanted to find this game again but i must be mispelling the title because i cannot google anything remotely close. i keep getting this 2007 maelstrom title.

do i have it by the correct name? any help or link would be tremendously appreciated.

second game i'm having a problem with:

also... another game i'm having a problem identifying...

this game was for the PC. i THINK it was turn based. it was a graphical RPG. it was set in germany and you had a PARTY maybe like 4 others and their faces were positioned on the LEFT side of the screen (sorta like BG). one thing to keep in mind is that i think there was a bank system. you were paid in FLORINS and you could deposit them at "banks" for a NOTE that had the amount on it. came out around 15 - 20 years ago. all i really remember is going from town to town, doing missions, and killing lots of ROBBER BARONS. not sure if anyone remembers this game.

Sounds like you may mean Starflight and Starflight 2. Tremendously fun games for their time. Graphics are very primative, but it was a fun story. Here's a web site on it:

This sounds a lot like Battlezone that was released in 1998.
    Fun game actually!

Exactly my thought as well based on the description. I loved Starflight. I still have the 5.25" floppies for it and code wheel. :)

I loved those games (Starflight 1&2) I thought it was funny that I had been burning up living creatures, unknowingly, as my ships fuel source though.

This reminds me of another game... grr, can't remember the name. Originally on Apple, came out for PC in late 90s/early 2ks, top down, wasd navigation, flying a space ship, trading, can take over worlds, hire or take over small fleet... argh.

sirmetman, i am interested in that title as well. it feels familiar. was it a 4X game?

Are you sure? Maelstrom doesn't sound like what you've described.

    And it's not Starflight?

You can run most DOS games in an emulator on current systems. You'll also find many of these older games available for free to download. They are considered 'abandonware' and can be found by googling.

Not 4X, it was a top down RPG-esque game. You only piloted a single ship, but you could take over or hire up to 8 or 10 other ships, if memory serves. You would fly between systems, landing on planets, trading... I thin there were 3 factions, maybe 4, plus pirates.
