No wayyy. I doubt you could even play it at minimum settings above 10FPS... that's a bit of an exaggeration... but seriously... That's not running.

Edit: You can't upgrade the GPU on this particular laptop. You can't upgrade the GPU on most laptops in fact. Upgrading the RAM will make Vista run much better and smoother.

The requirements for Halo 2 are pretty steep...that was one of just many criticisms of the PC port. IIRC the recommended Windows Experience Index rating is a 5 to run it. So you'll need some pretty good stuff, even my 8500 GT only has a 4.7

Generally you can only improve the RAM and HDD. If you're a brave sort you can crack the case open and you ~might~ be able to upgrade the processor and GPU (provided you have a GPU and not an IGP...the Intel GMA is an IGP so that's a no go there)

Unfortunately, laptops aren't as upgradeable as desktops are which is why people generally prefer desktops for gaming

even with a dedicated gpu its generally impossible to upgrade your gpu.

if you have a machine that can take a gpu upgrade, you would already know. they are expensive. even those machines are hit or miss.

there probably isn't anything you can do to get halo 2 running, even decently, on your laptop.

i would invest in an xbox (doesn't even have to be the 360) to play halo 2.

you could get an xbox 360 and play halo 3 when it comes out (very soon now). they aren't that expensive anymore.

don't waste more money on the game. it will be totally unplayable. its barely playable on midrange dedicated cards that are leagues stronger than the intel chip.

The lesson learned here: always do your homework before buying something big like a laptop, and it's so simple to do so these days with the internet.

upgrading the gpu (on laptops that can do it - yours cannot, even "later on") is still very expensive.

about as much as an xbox 360 *cough* get one for halo *cough*

No, you won't be able to, ever. The GMA 950 is an integrated card and as such is an integral part of the laptop's motherboard, linked in with the cpu and ram. It is not and never will be upgradable.

As I see it you have 2 options:

    1. Use your consoles for gaming. THe GMA950 cannot handle anything remotely worthy in terms of games at all, period.

    2. Sell/return your current laptop and buy one with a much more powerful graphics card.

Please read the stickies. The upgrading graphics card thread clearly states that laptop graphics cards cannot be upgraded.

Your best choices would be either:

-Try to return your notebook and get one with a better graphics card
    or
-Just use your consoles for gaming and maybe get a 360 for Halo 3 next month

Here's a tip, if you want a good laptop in that price range, don't buy it from Best Buy, on sale laptops in electronic stores will almost always have low end integrated video cards, or be more expensive then ones you can configure online.

Here's a Vostro you can get that will blow that VAIO out of the water, and is cheaper, plus you can configure it however you want. You can even get free shipping.

How are you getting the Vostro that low for those specs? Coupon? I just configured the exact same one and mine came out to around $1,300.

    Here's what I did.

Went to Dell.com -> notebooks -> small business -> Vostro.

    Picked the Vostro 1500.

Now here's the trick, I tried all the different packages, built them with the specs in the pic, and they ended up hundreds of dollars different, the cheapest one ended up being the "smart value package".

Then of course I took a screenshot and posted it.

Definitly look at the Inspiron 1520 or the Vostro 1500.

The computer in my sig is 1,174$ after coupon. Also this was when the 2GB RAM and 160GB HDD were free.

On this site there is a section entitled Dell Coupons. Go there and get you a coupon, configure your computer and BUY BUY BUY!

If you get a 1520 be prepared to wait though. Lately they have been shipping fast but they could possibly slow down again.

About playing games, Im playing Battlefield 2 on med/high graphics on my Zepto (specs in the sig) without any lag, only if its like 50 players exploding at the same spot lol. On all high settings it gets laggy when 20 players are near you in action.
