its trying to go into 256 color 640x480 mode. I am running windows media center (winxp) on an ASUS G2P. I can't seem to convince the lcd to do this only 16 bit or 32bit is allowed and lowest resolution is 800x600. i have tried setting CCC to keep aspect ratio with black border etc etc. but i am hitting a brick wall.

Try getting VMware workstation, or installing older operating system via a partition.

VMware is a program allows you to install an older operating system within the program and run it in your background (its not bad but laggy to some laptops) I have it on my system right now with Win98SE for older games while having Vista 64 installed and Ubuntu.
