I feel like playing a mmorpg again i used to play WoW but quited 2 years ago because it got boring (that was before the first expansion). But because i want to try something new i also had a look at Everquest 2 and Age of Conan. I tried the trial of EQII but im not sure if i liked it the server looks kinda deserted and Conan i have no clue since they have no free trial.

Plese help me chose with some good arguments why to chose one of these games. So WoW,EQII,Conan or a other MMORPG if its really good.

From a fellow MMORPG player, if WoW bored you then it will still bore you. I quit WoW for almost a year, came back and it was still boring.

I've never been a fan of the EQ series, and Age of Conan is supposed to be good but I have heard some pretty rough stuff...

If you think WoW might still bore you than skip it and EQ/AoC. I suggest waiting for Warhammer: Age of Reckoning looks a bit similar to WoW but with Realm vs. Realm action, it will be better or Diablo 3, but as for the current MMORPGS it's mainly WoW.

If you start exploring Burning Crusade content, the rush of super uber loot (easy quest rewards will replace your purple tier 2) and fast leveling from the rest xp will probably hook you a little bit.

Then again, on older servers like mine (Perenolde) seem to have become a bit barren after all of the splits and such. I just recently started playing again a couple of weeks ago, and it can get eerily quiet in the non Burning Crusade zones. Kinda like how Everquest got on Veeshan before it was shut down.

if wow bores you then dont bother EQ 2, Age of conan or GW. i would also suggest waiting for "WOW killer" aka warhammer

If you are seriously considering Age of Conan, then you should try it out first before you decide to buy. I personally couldn't stand Age of Conan's battle system, where each skill is divided into different body parts and you have to remember which skill targets which part in order to do some damage.

DEFINETLY go with WoW. AoC was a complete failure. I know many people who left WoW for it and were back after the first month. Just look at AOC's charts, a ton of people left after the first free month.

I dont have any experience with EQ but from what i've heard it is a bit out of date. Trust me on this, go with WoW. I've been playing for about 2-3 years and its still great.

Conan is the best MMORPG you will ever play for the first 50 levels.
(note it requires very nice hardware, but my laptop plays it quite well.)

After level 50ish or so all your choices start falling away and your gameplay is limited due to quite frankly a simple lack of content.
Conan also has issues with class balance and PvP balance, and item balance.

Note, these are the same issues WoW and every other MMORPG has ever had... Conan just has SO much potential, it just needs more work.

I cannot recommend WoW to anyone over the age of 13 unless you turn off chat and simply talk with friends on voice chat. If you can get past the horrid community, its not a bad game. Especially if you roll a godclass.

Warhammer just looks like WoW 1.5 to me... supposedly it is more PvP based, but then the question is which class is the flavor-of-the-month godclass.
(apparently right now its melee damage...)

Honestly, I will likely go back to Lineage2 for awhile.
At least if that legolas427382132939 pisses me off I can grease him for no reason other than because I hate his name.

I would play WoW til Warhammer comes out. AoC is a complete failure, the game runs like garbage on high end machines and the Customer Service does not even exist.

I played all three. They all have their pros and cons, but I think if you're looking for the best MMORPG out there, get Age of Conan. The PVP, combat, story, music, and graphics are best in Age of Conan. If you really want to devote your life to a MMORPG, get World of Warcraft, it'll steal away half your life. Blizzard has been making WoW easier and easier to attract more noobs, which isn't a good thing. I never liked Everquest II too much, it just wasn't addicting or immersive enough and there's almost no direction past the starter island.

I've posted this in another thread, and I think it steals holds true:

"I've played and enjoyed both. I've gotten about 100 hours on my WoW character before I quit July of last year, and around 50 hours on my AoC character. I think if you're looking for something new and exciting that's a lot less repetitive and full of less noobs, AoC is the game for you. I felt WoW is a lot more polished (I played about 40 hours at launch, then quit and came back at the end of 2006 because everyone I knew was playing it) than AoC, but I got bored of WoW. AoC can get pretty immersive, but it doesn't have that WoW feel that's hard to explain. Don't get me wrong, my opinion could easily change once I get further into AoC.

Graphics in AoC look really nice, but, even near maxed, I think it looks like a game from last year with a few nice effects. It has a nice style, but WoW still impresses me with its' artistic style. PVP in both games is a lot different, and they're both really fun. It's cool to be able to talk to and kill anyone on the PVP server, but I like WoW's war-style PVP a lot, too. The combat system in AoC is a lot more deep than WoW's. I've seen some truly amazing powers from every class, and stringing together spells and combos so skill is what'll win battles in AoC, is unbelievably sweet. Fatalities happen once every ten kills (as quoted by Funcom) and they'll always come as a surprise. You'll just be fighting, than you'll see some truly awesome and bloody fatality. I know I'll get bored of AoC in another year, but I think it could last me longer than WoW did. When there's a sequel to WoW (a game that pulls in over $180+ million a month will have an amazing sequel), I'll probably leave AoC for that, but if you're bored of WoW and want a completely new, different, and breathtaking experience, don't hesitate to go out and get Age of Conan. You won't regret it.

I know I didn't cover too much, but if you have any questions about comparing the games, just reply and I'll answer them."

I found that FFXI offers alot if you were a hardcore player and its still going strong. I cant stand retail WoW so I play now and then on a private server for fun but never get too deep into it.

So I wont play any of those pay to play MMORPG's as I put too much time/effort into them when real life should come first.

For pick up and play I fond Phantasy Star Online is the best and the newest version of it is Phantay Star Universe. Its worth getting just for the 1 player story if anything so that means no online fee's and if you liked the 1 player game then take online for a stroll. I like the JP touch that FFXI & PSO have.

Age of Conan is possibly the only MMO to be better at launch than it is after a bunch of patches. Funcom knows how to put up a nice, shiny front, but no clue whatsoever about how to run a persistent online game. The thing still has serious, fundamental flaws and they're already working on an expansion pack rather than getting the game to work like it should. That was SOMEWHAT acceptable back in 2000 or so, but these days it's just insulting. Don't give them your money.

Between EQII or WoW, it's six of one and a half dozen of the other. If one bores you to tears there's a strong chance the other won't be your thing either.

I was really surprised, I logged onto Age of Conan tonight and I don't see a single bug or crash. Funcom has come a long way, especially since the game was broken in July (combat was slowed down in July, but Funcom brought it back up to its' regular speeds, and memory leaks have been getting worse until now), but now I can finally play it without any problems. The only problem was that no one plays anymore, despite the fact that there are over 415k subscribers. I'm on one of the game's most popular servers, if not its' most popular server, Deathwhisper. I must have only seen ten players tonight in three hours.

Maybe Funcom can bring a lot of people back on with its' big patch on Tuesday. They just screwed up the game a lot past its' first month. A month ago I still saw a lot of people on, we'll see if Funcom can bring them back.

I played WoW ages ago, but then stopped cause I couldnt take it anymore. EQ2 was really great for almost 2 years, awesome close-knit community. If your into classic mmorpg style, its definately worth a try. Just make sure to get into the community ^^
Tried AoC, quit about a month ago though.
I am now hooked on EvE online actually, havnt played anything like it before. Its very different.

AoC was nice visually, but got boring really early for me. WoW is well WoW, constant imbalances mixed with cookie cutter builds and macros make that game more of a repetitive job then a fun game. Cant comment on eq, but Im sure it has its vices too.

I'm not too surprised about AoC though being as though the game had so much potential and was probably the biggest letdown. I went to AoC to leave WoW after 2.5 years and even with MUCH better graphics I just went back to WoW even though I hated WoW at the time.

I'd suggest Entropia Universe. Its a great mmo, more aimed at the adult player-base primarily due to the fact that it has a real cash economy, where players can not only have fun but make real money while they do - as in all the creatures you kill, items you craft and ores you mine all give items worth real cash. The game actually had like $360 million run through it in 2006 and is increasing every year. Its the mmo i play anyway.

I think Funcom is starting to clean up their act. They're finally implementing the PvP System and fixing gems. I wouldn't rule out AoC yet. Yes, they ****ed up, but a recovery is possible.

Thats good to hear. I liked AoC for a little bit, but the grind and gameplay was the same from start to near finish. The game was very pleasing graphically, but still had a WoW feel as far as gameplay. As for being unstable and all people commonly compare AoC to WoW and they dont understand that WoW was just as bad when it came out.

I suggest playing WoW again. The Burning Crusade has alot new features to offer, like a new Battleground, and very addictive new pvp settings like arena battles. Also In a few months, another expansion pack will come out that will offer even move new things for us gamers to play around with.

my suggestion would be guild wars because it is free online and has a good base of players. but maybe wait for GW 2 if you are going that route.

if you want one NOW then WoW is better than EQ2, and age of Conan was supposed to be VERY good.

I also heard great things about tabula Rasa

Burning Crusade was some of the most fun I've had in a MMO in the past few years. It will play like a new RPG console game with great story and content. Of course once you get towards the later areas it slows down dramatically. For someone like me, the super casual, there wasn't much of a point progression wise in my personal opinion.

if you can game on wow without letting it rule you then it is fun. but i still say guild wars is far superior. it requires tactics in getting your skill build together. you need to forage for good materials and equipment. but it is still playable by a casual gamer. the level cap makes even lazy people able to be strong.

the game is more focused on teamwork than maxing out an amazing character. in short, you need FRIENDS, to play it.

The expansion, IMHO, ruined WoW for me. Pre BC was loads of fun and PVP wasnt ruined by resil. TBC end game content is boring, and really all they did was add raid bosses with aggro dumps to make things" interesting". Heres to blizzard removing resil and making end game fun again for WotLK...At least I can hope about the resil being removed...

Agree with JCMS. I have to say that all of the MMORPG on the market right now will bore you to death just like WoW. I played Wow for 2 and half years. LOTR Online for a while, (great story boring gameplay) and I played Age of Conan....Honestly if you are a casual mature player, meaning you don't play that often (weekends) and you don't like playing with little 13 year old wow fanboys, I suggest LOTR, the people that play that game are one of a kind...You get help from anyone you ask, I ran into maybe 2 kids on that game but for the most part, its a older mature fanbase.

Age of conan is a decent time killer but it will also bore you to death after X amount of time.

IN conclusion since I'm to lazy to go into details, wait for warhammer, its like a month away, test it out and then you can fall back on Aoc and LOTR...or just get Diablo 3 when it comes out...0o0o baby!

Sales for tabula rasa were pretty disappointing. it pretty much bombed. AoC is losing subscribers fast. the new game everyone is looking forward to to hold its own in the MMO genre is warhammer: age of reckoning. In my opinion, this game is much more promising than both tabula rasa and AoC.

I agree. Ever since the debacle that was Anarchy Online, my respect for Funcom has been lower than a hammered dog turd.

Those memory leaks were tremendous issues during the closed beta that, even then, were never really addressed properly. The beta boards were full of remarks about the memory leaks. And even with the advice of the beta testers and a few of the dev's, Age of Conan was still released... and is still suffering from memory leaks post launch.

So did I. That was until I purchased the game, played for a month and quit. Quite possibly the worst sci-fi based MMO I have ever played. You want boredom? Play TR.

I would have thought it wasn't so much the server, than the zones. I was there when Planes of Power was released which negated Druids being port-whores anymore. Eventually, zones like Butcher Block, Kelethin, the old world stuff, and even Kunark and Velious was barren and deserted. The Ry'gorr fort in Eastern Wastes is a prime example of this, which has always offered fast and furious group action with a group waiting list. Now, you can barely scratch together a group to do the Messenger quest.

A shame, really, what EQ has turned into...

AoC is fun for 3-4 weeks. Funcom really cleaned up the bugs but there still isn't any end game content and the player base has completely died off. I wouldn't recommend it.

If you haven't tried WoW - The Burning Crusade I'd give that a go until Warhammer online comes out.

I'm in Warhammer beta now and it blows WoW out of the water. Amazing game!

I'd highly recommend WAR when it releases septmeber 18th.

All they're doing is bringing the game up to what was promised on the back of the box months too late. And at this point, even if they DO manage to make things better I wouldn't trust them to not screw things up again. They're just not worth trusting when there are so many other options out there.

This almost sounds as though you are referring to SOE, not Funcom. ;)

My vote goes for playing WoW for 3 months. You'll probably hit 70 in that amount of time and done everything worth doing in that amount of time. After 3 months is over and WAR is out, cancel your WoW sub and get a new copy of WAR.

AoC is too graphics intensive unless you have a high end machine. Don't play SOE games, trust me.

Warhammer is coming out next month with the preview weekend starting Friday. I would give it a look if I were you.

The preview is only available to those people who purchased pre-orders of WAR through EB Games, Best Buy, Circuit City, Amazon, Target, and WalMart. Plus, you must register with FilePlanet, enter your key codes and download/install the client (9.34GB) in order to be ready to play this weekend.

Also, I have heard that the preview weeked is limited to the first 50k people who purchased pre-orders of WAR and registered with Mythic...

City of Heroes / City of Villains is an exciting superhero/villain game. Great character design and selection process. Ability to tweak character in terrific ways. Very good graphics, solid content, focus on action and roleplaying, great community of players, and not resource-building intensive or slow to navigate.

Garet, that is true. I didn't mean to log on and play but to do some research and look into the game, there are quite a few videos, screenshots and reviews out now that the NDA is lifted. I was only in the beta for a little over a month but from what I have seen I really love the game so far. I was utterly bored with WoW after a month. Right now if I were looking for a new mmorpg I would until next month and try WAR considering WoW is the only other decent option out there atm, unless you want to play an older mmorpg.

I've played all of those you mentioned, and then some, since release of UO back in 97'

From closed beta, trust me, Warhammer is what you want. Mythic has outdone themselves.

Don't get attached to the UI. This is closed beta, so it looks more busy than I expect with options at release.

Actually, because the look of WAR is so much like WoW, I was not looking forward to, or expecting to play WAR. I played WoW from beta, to 6-month's in to release, and had my fill of it.

Truth is, WoW copied the Warhammer table top game graphics. So while WAR looks like WoW, consider the fact that WoW copied Warhammer when designing its art.

Games are similar, but also very different. I couldn't stand the insane time sink of raids and never ending lewt drops. WAR has PvE fun, but it's core is centered around PvP, World PvP, and that is the attraction for me.

In addition, the classes on both sides, Order & Destruction, are extremely well done. Art is fantastic, yet I can be in a battle with a hundred players on the screen and have a smooth game play experience.

    Good luck -CC
