I have a gateway MT3707. It uses integrated ati graphics. It says (gateway, bestbuy, the box, ect) that it can use up to 256mb hyper-memory

Under BIOS, you can only upgrade it to 128mb. Looking around in the ati software, I don't see an option, but then again, I'm not sure what I'm looking for.

I know it uses shared memory, but 256mb is still better than 128mb, and this seems like false advertising. My 14 day return policy ended this past sunday.

Am I missing something here, or am I gonna have to go to bestbuy and see what I can find out?

how much memory does your gateway have? The
hyper memory will increase with the addition of memory.
312 to 1 gig gets you 128 over 1 gig gets you more
up to 256 with 2 gigs of ram

Thank you. It has 1 GB ram and only allows up to 128mb.

Your saying when I add 2 gb (later this yr), I will be able to increase to 256mb?

The guy that replied to the OP's questions worried me. He's saying that even in vista, you still can only increase to 128 (unless i'm reading something wrong, then sorry), and that hyper memory is no good in vista. It just has me worried that Im stuck at 128mb max no matter how much ram I add on

It's an integrated graphics card. Really, the IGP won't be able to effectively handle more than 128 MB. You'll be fine.

I went to Best Buy site and read description, the way they wrote it I find incorrect, but with that said maybe I can make you feel better. Move the pointer to an empty area of the screen, “right click” in the drop down go to properties and “left click” in the screen that pops up go to the settings tab far right “left click” screen pops up go to bottom left “left click” advanced. In new screen, adapter tab (second to right) “left click” I bet it says 256MB. While I agree that is not 256MB Hyper Memory it is the way Best Buy describes. I have Gateway from Best Buy 1150 (200m series) they said 128MB, in Catalyst I can set UMA to 256MB the system reports 512MB card. I have 2GB of RAM. Don't go to Bios go to Catalyst then UMA at the bottom what ever it is set to system will report twice as much. And yes if you get 2GB may go up. I agree you were deceived. Good luck. Just so you know I set mine to 128MB even though I can set Higher. I agree that more than UMA of 128MB no improvement.

after going to where you said to, I got this:

    Total available graphics memory: 287mb
    Dedicated Video Memory: 64mb
    System Video Memeory: 0mb
    Shared System Memory: 233mb

^not sure what to make of all that, the 64 "dedicated" is integrated.

in catalyst control center, I have no option to set UMA buffer (that I can see). I'm in vista. I'll keep looking.

thanks. I don't really care that much about the graphics card, I just needed something to handle light 2d and 3d work (autodesk inventor/student) so its not really a big deal, but it still bugs me.

Don't trust anything that Best Buy says. Their business practices ... well, they aren't the best. I'm buying my electronics from Sears or Circuit City now. I love my Sears employee discount. I also know when everything goes on sale :)

yeah, CC seems pretty good. The only reason we use BB is because of the rewards points program, my family's spent a lot at BB on computers and ipods, tvs, and what-not.

I am sorry it looks like because of diff OS my help is limited. With that said couple of things. I would suggest you contact Gateway support, they might be able to explain. I am surprised at the change in the way the fundamental diff between the OS's and the way they report. Looks like Vista is much more involved than I would like, upgrade RAM my give you better than 64MB dedicated which I would like on my system. In Catalyst make sure you are in “advanced” view, if it is in basic look lower left click advanced. Once there bottom choice Integrated Graphics opens UMA buffer click. I agree with you, I would not be happy with what they say and what you are telling us!
