In terms of gaming and other graphical tasks, how much of a difference is there in the performance of these cards, assuming that the base systems(CPU, RAM, HD speed, etc) are the same?

About an equal step, x700 is about twice as poweful as the x1400 (but lacks sm3) while the x1600 is about 50% faster than the x700 (same step if less of a percentage) but has SM3.

Thanks. I would expect that the x1600 to be the most future proof of the three cards. The x1400 generates less heat than the x700 and x1600?

I dont want to be mean or something but there are a lot of threads about Videocards these days. Just search for X1400 + X1600 and you will find tons of results that answer your question.

    One more time for ATI:

    7500 < 9000< 9200< 9550< X200< 9600 < X300 < 9700 < X1300 < X600 < X1400 < X700 < 9800 < X1600 < X800 < X1700 < X1800

I hope that I have answerd the question.

This is inaccurate. As someone who has used a 9550 and an X200, I can tell you it looks more like this:

    7500 < 9000 < 9200 < X200 < X300 < 9550 < 9600 < X1300 < 9700 < X600 < X1400 < X700 < 9800 < X1600 < X800 < X1800

Since when has there been an X1700?

x200 could well be below the 9000 and the 9250 is probably below the 9000 aswell.

    The X1700 is being prepped:
    http://theinquirer.net/?article=30687

I've seen some benchmarks where the X300 beats out the MR9600 . . we had a thread on it a few weeks ago. But, that was one case, I haven't seen any 'real' benchmarks comparing the two.

If you overclock the X700, it's faster than the MR9800. I beat my desktop's 9800XT with my X700 256 overclocked. Performance difference is especially prevelant in the newer games. Of course, going by stock settings, the 9800 is faster, as I assume you are comparing them like that. Just saying that the 9800 will be beat if the X700 is OC'ed right. ;)
