newegg should have it. Keep in mind that you get what you pay for.

You might be better off raising the budget slightly for a better system.

i have the Acer 5672, theres nothing wrong with it. its def the best bang for the buck. Other companies probably have more durable and stronger cases but if u take care of it nothing will happen.

It has a core duo, 1 GB Ram and a x1600 along with a DVD DL burner, bluetooth etc, it has alot of options. def worth the money. newegg doesnt have it anymore so u might have to look around

Does it have to be a laptop? You may get more value with a desktop in your situation.

You could build an ASUS S96J under $1200:
    S96J Barebone $579 BTOTech.com (15.4" WXGA, X1600)
    Processor: Core2Duo T5600 $249 BTOTech.com
    RAM: 1GB 667DDR2 RAM $105 NewEgg.com
    HDD: Seagate Momentus 80GB 5400 rpm $80 NewEgg.com
Optical: Samsung Dual Layer DVD burner $63 NewEgg.com
    Wireless: Intel 3945ABG Wireless Card $31 Ewiz.com
    Total = $1107
    Shipping ~$50
    WinXP Home OEM ~$100

If you can spend a little more you can get a nearly identical laptop Z96J Barebone (Bluetooth & WSXGA) for $729, upping the final cost to $1257.

BTOTech.com should flash the BIOS for you for the new processor and install it. I believe Arctic Silver 5 is even included at no charge. The rest of the components simply click, snap or slide into place and are secured with a few screws.

    Hope this helps.

I think the 7600 is alot better video card than the X1600. just something to think about if the prices are the same.

And also be sure to check that the Acer 5672 has the x1600 and not the earlier model with x1400

Not really, the X1600 has shown to be a little quicker, not that it matters really.

ATI better at Direct X Games.
Nvidia better at Open GL Games

I recommend the S96J, its really a great laptop with the x1600 256mb.

The S96J is one of the systems I was going to recommend if you could up the budget a little. Unless there's a reason that you need to have a laptop, I would still recommend a desktop for more bang for the buck.

The x1600/go 7600 are about 2x as powerful as the go 7400 in the dv6000t.

BTW, my bro has this laptop and i did 3dmark05 and his system got about 2700 points...
    so judge for yourself....

Be carefull, the Acer 5672 is a 64 bit X1600 mobility. That means that the maximum 3dmark05 score is around 2800-3000. So if you are on a very tight budget, consider a Dell with 6800, it scores even higher (3600).

I got my Compal EL80 for about $1150 shipped next day ($60 shipping total). I got the computer, CPU, ODD and wireless at mWave, and the hard drive and memory at NewEgg.
