You do know that even if you get it up and running, you still won't have an enjoyable experience right?

Plays well? Not quite my friend. Tetris on black and white game boy plays better than COD4 on an X3100

How can we tell how to get the game to work if there is no way to do that because the card is worthless?

The card may be worthless, but the game still runs (although poorly).

    Did you try a re-install?
Edit: you mentioned you used a custom config file, that's likely the culprit.

It will run without much problems on Vista. On XP however, you might not be able to run it very well. I heard if you run it again and try Safe Mode for the game, you should be able to, but don't try changing settings.

Because this is a responsible forum and there are younger people browsing through them and it's not appropriate.

How are we being total idiots when we are telling you that you are trying to play a new game on a card that's not meant for gaming? You even proved it yourself, it doesn't work.

yes but all u were saying was the card it worthless and not actually giving any help, n besides young kids see worse than my wallpaper in the show off your desktop topic. Just because the intel x3100 is a IGP doesnt mean its worthless at games, it stills plays alot of games well, im sick of people who have 8800's jst saying that the x3100 is no gd for gaming at all when in actual fact it is. Not all of us can afford to go out and but a Alienware M15x

The thing is, X3100 is NOT MEANT FOR GAMING, PERIOD...

Now if you think playing a game at it lowest settings at less than 10 FPS is gaming, then ok, the INTEL x3100 IS THE TOP OF THE LINE GAMING SOLUTION, you can play Crysis, COD4, Gears, bioshock at stunning 800x600 RES with the best Settings, LOW LOW LOW at uber fast 10 fps ... Pwn all noobs playing on crappys 8800, they dont know what gaming is...

    HAPPY???

With the money you spent on your Acer you could have easily gotten a notebook with a dedicated graphic solution.

It is in fact good for gaming you say? Doesn't this thread and your issue prove the opposite? What do you mean by "good for gaming"? 10 FPS like the previous poster suggested?

Nah i couldnt actually when i bought my notebook there was no way i could have got dedicated graphics solution for the same money, i live in the UK which is more expensive than switzerland :p, and as for the rest of ya, i get 30fps+ on all the games i play at atleast 1024x768. I admit its no Nvidia but its not "worthless" thats how i would describe you lot

Lived in both, Switzerland is far more expensive believe me. You could have gotten a Dell Vostro with an 8600M GT for not much money at all. What games do you play at 30 fps?

i play Halo 1+2(2 dips abit :D) COD 1+2, Colin Mcrae 2005, i know this is off topic for this section but just out of curiosity what performs better the 8800GT in ur desktop or the 8800 GTX n your laptop? Oh and look at the dell uk site, no 8600M GT anywhere on any of the 1500's, is the 8600 in the xps 1530 ddr2 or ddr3?

They both are good but I would have to say the 8800GT in the desktop works a bit better, maybe this is has to do with the quad core CPU, better RAM and faster hard drive. I can only say that because I can run Crysis on high pretty well with the 8800GT but with the 8800M GTX I have to put some settings on medium.

Wow, the UK site has a very limited selection of laptops!! It's pretty surprising. You can still get an XPS M1530 with an 8400M GS which is so much better than an Intel X3100 already. Sucks the Vostro doesn't even have a dedicated GPU.

The games you are playing seem a lot older than CoD 4 which you are trying to play. And if you are only getting 30 fps in these, imagine what will happen with CoD 4?

Bugger off troll. The X3100 can run WiC @ 800x600. And TF2 at same settings.

Seriously what is wrong with people hes asking a question, just tell him the answer instead of going on a rant about how hell enjoy it or not

To answer your question, people have got it running, check Youtube, im not 100% sure on the specifics, but i saw people with 15.8 on Low (it looks decent enough) at around 20-25 FPS. Thats okay, and playable, especially for MP where you are too focused on the action. 15.9 are out offcourse, which will probably help quite a bit, but yeah, at least try the demo. Ive also heard it takes a bit of work to get running, but considering how much your laptop cost and how much you expect from it, something is better than nothing

If anything, you'd prefer higher FPS on MP than on SP, too much into the action?? Usually people are happy with 30 FPS on SP but want more on MP.

Hey thats interesting, how is Halo 2? I have Halo 2 and 3, but im sick of crappy matchmaking you have to go through on XBL, not forgetting the fact you get so little choice.

If it works at a playable framerate even on Low, i might go get myself a copy of my friend

Offcourse, but again, i bought my laptop for dirt cheap, and regardless, 20-25 FPS is still playable

But then again, you dont have to be God to be good? I do have a gaming PC and all, but if i know my laptop will play the game fine too, i sometimes prefer it simply because i can lie down on my bed and play it in comfort

I dont know, moving your desktop onto your bed as well as the screen isnt too easy. And im sure theres nothing wrong with say reading a book while in bed, theres a lot you can do in bed other than what people commonly associate with them :p

this thread has gone so off topic, but yeh, i would give up trying to play cod 4 on that laptop, vista might work perfectly, but XP might not, who knows, remember the game is capable of direct x 10, maybe something to do with having directx 10 on vista (even tho the graphics card doesnt support it) may mean it plays on vista and not xp, who knows,

i dont actually care tbh, because ive been playing PC games and consoles for that long, i cant cope with anything below 45 FPS, so for me i have to have the best, im obsessed, i MUST have stuff on high textures on 45FPS + at my native resolution, the only game that fails in this matter is crysis(obviously), so aside from that i run every game at 1920 x 1200 on high text's (most on extra)

i wouldnt even bother trying to get cod 4 working, not worth the hassle.

so there you go, ive stated what i think the problem may be, stated what my opinion is, and stated what course of action would be best to take.

so dont flame like you have flamed everyone else who has said "your laptop is crap"

to really answer ur question. in XP i really dont think so and in vista i highly doubt it. either u need some major tweaks to play it on your intel3100 or its useless. seriously out of ALL the IGPS in ALL the LAPTOPS in ALL the WORLD. the x3100 is the pits. =/ really sorry to say that but most of my friends who got laptops have x3100 and ive seen enough of trying to play on it.

AND its sad to play pre 2005 games on a modern laptop. my old dell 8200 geforce32mb can play those games to as the same settings as yours

how many frames? 20? then when the artillery strikes comes 10? :D haha thats barely playable.

Thats not too bad, considering the XBOX game runs at 30 FPS anyway, hopefully it has its framerate locked for PC

There is not much further debate at this point. VISTA RUNS COD4 BETTER THAN XP ON THE X3100. You've got XP, so you will encounter much more problems and probably slower too. You will be able to start the game, maybe in safe mode, but then that's the ONLY settings you'll be able to play basically.

not really IIRC the type of frame blending used on tv is alot different to pcs this is why tv run at 30 frames and its not noticable however on pc 60 frames per sec is the where the human eye cannot tell anything beyond this.

@ orginal poster i don't think this game will run well especially on IGP everything will be on low and at best if it did work 10 + fps.. which is almost a slideshow..

what errors were they. anyway, i had a heck of a time getting COD5 to run. maybe try and get the latest directx 9/10 drivers, then try google-ing your problem.
and, oh yeah, your integrated card is crap.
