Right, i have neither of these games but my mate wants me to get cod 4 to play online. Im worried about the gaming community online, now cod 5 is out will the online community of cod 4 perish?

Or, as cod 4 is modern warfare and the most popular game last year, will cod 5 not have a good community and cod 4 keeps it?

i just dont want to buy a game and the online sucks...

    Thanks

There will be enough people to play both. There is a crowd that only wants to play WWII and there is another crowd that only wants to play in a Modern Setting. Take your personal pick and there will be other players no matter what.

Graphically its better IMO, and gameplay wise, you could almost feel you are in a real war.

I played tons of COD2, and right when COD4 came out, the COD2 community died. And this was going from a WWII game to a modern game. COD4 to COD5 is going to be modern to modern, so I can't imagine the same thing not happening.

I suspect that the COD4 community will die off when COD5 comes out - not all at once, but COD5 will definitely have a stronger community... buy COD5 and get him to do the same :)

imo 4 is defo the best. played it twice now from beginning to end and still love it even more than crysis.
as KockM mentioned there will be many thousands on both servers.
dont forget youve still got the single player mode and then you can start your own server so its exclusively for you and your mates.

COD4 is far superior to COD5. COD5 is just COD4 in a different setting but the GFX and game engine is same as COD4 which Infinity Ward developed whereas Treyarch used the developed tech from IW to make COD5.

As a matter a fact, an IW developer ranted the other day about Treyarch taking too much credit for COD5 when in fact all they did was basically mod the engine COD4 was built upon.

thats weird, because i saw that COD5 had more deep graphics, and it runs even better on my system lol

also, COD4 had a bad syndrome that you would see that the game looks wonderful, but when you close up on textures , they look blurry, and thats fixed with COD5

Of course it looks better. It uses SM 3.0 to render where as COD4 uses SM 2.0

There should be lots of people playing COD5 so you don't really need to worry about the online community. I've played both COD4 and 5 online and COD5 has a slower pace but that doesn't make it a bad game.
I love the maps in COD5 more than the maps in COD4... :D Just unlocked the extended magazines for both my thompson and MP40. ;) Although the extended magazine wasn't very useful for the MP40 coz it shoots a bit too slow for close range so it's not like I'm gonna run out of bullets...lol Thompson on the other hand are VERY useful with the extra bullets in the clip. :D

    Yeah, what do you mean?

    From Wikipedia:
"Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is a first-person shooter video game [...] The game breaks away from the World War II setting of previous games in the series and is instead set in modern times."

"Call of Duty: World at War is a first-person shooter video game [...] The game is set in the Pacific theater and Eastern front of World War II."

COD4 is the only one of the series that I actually enjoyed enough to replay and go online with. Less popular games have survived with players for a longer time, so I would think you will be fine with COD4.

World of War is an additional entry to the Call of Duty series, but it is not Call of Duty 5.

CoD 5 -- or is it 6? -- will return to the modern day themes found in CoD 4.

Junk marketing is to blame for the non sequitur, pseudo-militaristic subtitles:

Call of Duty: World at War developed by Treyarch is the fifth installment in the main series (however is not to be named 5), excluding expansion packs and sub-series. -- Source

COD2 was the second most popular FPS next to CS:S for a pretty long while. The fact that that died when COD4 was released tells me you should cue up for the same when the next COD comes out.

It isn't COD5 its CODWaW which is more along the lines of COD4.5, think along the lines of Battlefield 1942 to Vietnam and 2 to 2142 or the GTA series 3, Vice City, San Andreas. So We don't know where COD5 will be set.

This would be similar to the GTA games then, GTA 1-4 are set in the same place while the other ones, well... arn't, lol.

I assume the OP is talking about World at War then?

True, but anecdotally at least, it seems like people I know prefer the environment of 4. They're mostly sick of the WW2 setting. That may have also factored into the movement away from 2.

CoD4 my fave, played single player at least 5 times! on different difficulties of course.

um lets not get mixed up in wordplay and just say its CoD5 since that is what everyone assumes it to be xD

They really took a step backwards since WW2 has been done soooooo many times, i saw the game and everything looks great, firefights and stuff, although the AI can be pretty dumb sometimes and its alright in zombie mode. xD everything is alright asides from the timeline.

but still id like to see more of a decent modern warfare shooter out there

I'm struggling between this game or Left 4 dead...I tried the L4D demo and its fun but sometimes you will get a jerk on your team and kills the entire team X_X

so what do you guys think about this ? Since I can only pick one game.....

Well, if you buy COD and already own a source game, you can play the free zombie mod called Zombie Panic! Source (which personally I find more fun than Left 4 Dead anyway). Just throwing it out there.

Totally agree. I don't understand why Activision hired Treyarch to make CoD5 (or WaW if you prefer). Infinity Ward did the best job with CoD, CoD2 and CoD4 . At least, IW is going to come back with CoD6 in 2009 :D

I think they've reached the top of WWII games with CoD5. I mean, they improved the engine, corrected some nasty stuff from CoD4 (eg 3 nades perk or chopper) and the game is even more realist. They have to move on to something else for the next one.

As for the online community, I don't really believe everyone will move to CoD5 because it doesn't meet everyone's expectations, first of all because its a WWII game.

The dogs are way easier to kill (eg knife) and can still get you some kills. Plus they don't shoot through walls. The artillery also doesn't get through like windows.

yup, its something awesome. but if an enemy player was well-focused, he can simply kill every dog that approches him with Melee .

CoD5 dosn't fall under the usual "like the old, but newer and better" catagory, imo. Totally different kind of game. I personally still play CoD4 online a lot more than I do CoD5 - in fact the only part of CoD5 online that took with me is the whole zombie thing (which is fun :D).

Bottom line, totally different games, don't worry about it, people will play both - and the CoD4 community is far from dead, or dying. I havn't even noticed a difference, personally.

Yeah, This isn't "COD5". I think the actual COD5 will come out later this year, of not 2010. It's kind of like the counter strike series, CS:S is NOT CS:2, is is just simply a different version, but not the next version in the series. COD:W@W is referred to by many people as COD5 but I have never seen it being referred to as this by Activision or any other game company for that matter. Not trying to be picky here, just sayin...

And also, I don't like CODW@W (I have the game) because I have found public servers named "4000 Points per kill!" and I joined, and every kill I got I was raised a level. I got to the highest level within minutes and unlocked all the guns in the game, which made the game not as fun anymore. I have looked and there is not one (Thankfully) for COD4, so leveling up isn't that easy (AFAIK). Also in W@W I can run really fast with a knife out and get 6 kills on an enemy because it's not that easy killing someone who is running at you at point blank with the WWII weapons.

Yeah I like cod5, its fun, but i dont really see a competition mode other than bolts only for this game. My problem is there appear to be only about 4200 servers showing in the server browser, is this what everyone else is getting? Yeah i have the patches and the filters set to 'all' so im not sure whats up here.

you guys are all tools who jumped on the cod bandwagon ever since cod2. I bet none, or very few have actually played the first cod and its expansion. Those where the best cod game(s), no matter how hard you want to fanboi your way out of it.

cod2 was so bad compared to the original, it was too easy, barely any recoil and so much dmg per hit. cod3 was worse, and cod4 is the same, although its still fun. cod5 just sucks, its pretty looking and not much else

its pretty much the same game in a different time frame...which autmatically makes 5 better regardless of who made it :D ww2 all the way...just beacause most of you guys can't use any weapon that doesn't have a fire rate of 1500rpm and haven't learn how to use a bolt action rifle without a scope doesn't mean ww2 is crap...it means it requires skill.

I agree with you, the campaign in the first CoD was so great. It was to best campaign of the entire CoD series. CoD 2 and CoD 4 were great for their multiplayer, but their Campaign wasn't as well done as the first one..

Agreed! I would guess that more people care about the multiplayer function nowadays. I find COD4 more "fun". COD5 does a great job improving upon the feeling that you're in a war but playability wise COD5 just doesn't blow away all previous WWII games whereas COD4 has little competition in it's developers bag of tricks if you know what I mean.

They're both great games... and as you can see by all our comments, it just comes down to personal preference, it's hard to say one is better than the other.
