had the game since release day and on roughly 8 occasions i would get a strict nat instead of open. it says go to infinity ward forum to open my routers nat which ive done and asked for help there but with no joy. cant find any walkthrough to help me out.
since last week it is now strict all the time but i can still play the game without any problem.
any ideas why it would stay strict continuously now and whats the difference between strict and open.
im using a bt broadband home hub router if that helps.

I don't know much about the NAT issue. I just wanted to say that ever since I got MW2 it has always been on Strict and works just fine from day 1.

I have to turn off my firewall to get an open nat type.

on your router, i'm assuming you have DHCP enabled, meaning that your router assigns you an IP address.

Are any specified IP addresses in your router also specified as DMZ? Cause if it is, then that just means when you randomly get your IP Address, once in a while, you'll get that one IP address that has DMZ and your NAT will change from STRICT to OPEN.

This can hold true if you also have port-forwarding enabled on your router

Some routers require you to enable Universal Plug-and-Play. Just an FYI.

When your xbox connects to the router, the IP isn't always the same.
The port settings in your router are configured for a specific IP(192.168.1.---).

You can edit the router settings to use your new xbox's IP. Or, go onto your xbox and change the setting to only use the same IP.
