so i had before a pc and now i have a laptop (better specs than my pc had).
    G50vt-a1 (d2d 2,8ghz,4gb ram,9800M GS 512mb).
I have a pretty low detail config which i also used on my pc (up to 80fps). But now on my laptop they drop rly low.. in smoke 17 fps.. in little rooms max. 60fps.. normaly 30-40 fps.

What could be the problem?

did you try updating drivers? Are you sure your graphics card is supported for the game? What i mean is that i know a few games where a Nvida 7300go would run better than a 8800GTS because the 8800GTS wasn't supported, especially if its an Nvidia 6150se :/

the 9800m GS in your laptop is a fairly capable card and the framerates your getting seem consistent with similar machines. I can only tell you that it could be driver related, over-heating related, or settings related.

1.) try to install latest drivers, unless they give you graphical glitches they should be fine.

2.) see if your laptop is overheating, try propping it up on some books or a few rubber erasers. download HWmonitor and see how high the numbers get after an hour or 2 of gaming (in excess of 90C should be avoided)

3.) try letting loose on some of the settings, primarily AA and AF, as those provide marginal quality benefits at higher levels.

another thing to do is try other games and see if they play reasonably. If nothing works you might have a defective card and you can probably contact ASUS to get a new one.

Just as a reference, I have a 9600m GT in my laptop paired with a 3.06 Ghz CPU (when overclocked) and I get respectable performance @ 1680x1050 resolution and high settings (2xAA 4x AF)

As a side note I was getting framerate drops in F.E.A.R not to long ago and after doing some research into the problem it turned out it had something to do with the fact that I was using a logitech mouse. Somehow the driver gets corrupted whenever the FEAR engine was in operation and sure enough after disabling some of the related hardware ID's in the device manager I was able to confirm that it wasn't my hardware... but software.

I'm citing this because it could be a totally random source of error and that there is a slight chance someone else is having the exact same issue. Try googling your symptoms is google as best you can... something like "framerate slowdowns cod4" and hope that someone somewhere is having the exact same problem.

Again, All I know is that you SHOULD be able to play this game at a meager 1280x960 res all maxed out. So something is definitely wrong.

Try plugging it in, or make sure its plugged into wall. Sometimes even if your not in power saver mode and unplugged it will down clock, you need the patch thing to get around that.

C2D 2.8ghz + 9800M GS should be getting phenomenal FPS In COD4 in the highest settings.

*Also do a quick check to make sure you don't have AA or something weird forced in the Nvidia Control Panel.

I agree that setup show be giving u awsome FPS im running CoD4 at max settings on my HD3670 (which is considerably lower in performance that the 9800m gs) and getting min 30FPS.
