    Lower your texture settings.
The call of duty series have always been memory hogs and the 8600m GT, especially the DDR2 version, would have issues with higher texture settings.

It's not the video settings that typically causes the game to lock up. I personally have a computer with a P4, 2gb ram, 7600GT 256mb that runs this game maxed out with not issues like this.

Is it JUST cod4 that does this? Also, what OS do you have, and have you tried defragmenting your hard drive? This is also one of the issues people who have virus infected computers start having. You may also want to scan for viruses if you havent already.

I have the hardest time seeing the bad guys on the map Creek (lots of foilage). I'm playing on 1280 I think and I think the textures are on low because I can't see through the tall grass. Lowering the res would just make that worse. Any tips?

That would make it worse wouldn't it? Without AA and high textures shrubbery and tall grass won't even be see-through right?

Correction: I've been playing on 1024x768 :( so I'd have to either raise my textures or lower to 800x600, but that pitful res wouldn't help.
