console not opening in games

Guys i am haviong this problem on my computer...Crysis, Far Cry, Doom 3, Stalker...any game u name it whic supports opening console using ~ is not opening in my games....can anyone help me

PS: to press the ~ key in windows i have to press Shift+`

just pressing ~ key does not work

 

Try the key above tab (to the left of 1).
That's ~on US keyboards, and a lot of games have not yet understood that some people use different keyboard layouts.

 

thanks Jalf but i have in my keyboard settings have the layout set as US....i checked it out just now...and i also checked out a dozen more layouts and all have ~ set as Shift+`

plz can anyone tell me how to make the ` key enter ~ as default when pressed??? curently to input ~ i have to press Shift+`

there aint an option in crysis, far cry and Stalker...so i cant change it

 

Could be a slight manufacturing error in the keyboard.

 

nope i have tried my laptops keyboard and two other external keyboards as well....

 

If you look at your keyboard, ` is below ~. Thus, the normal action of that key is to output `, whereas modifying it with shift will make it output ~. It's not an error: that's how it is. You need to remap the key at the OS level to change this.

For that, check out http://webpages.charter.net/krumsick/ . You can remap ~ to ` and ` to ~, thus switching the two keys. However, this will be global (i.e. not just in games).

 

Try creating a shortcut of the game, and in the target box, after the title,leave a blank space and add :
-console
See if it works.

 

thanks eleron but no luck...i did it but cant...dunno why cuz b4 on my old P4 i culd open up the console in FarCry but even that aint opening up on my lappy....

 

Are you running Vista or XP ?
If you have a remote control, that might be the culprit. Disable it and see if it helps.

 

yeah i have a remote and by googling i also saw that disabling it helps, but Eleron man the thing is that in the HDX the remote sensor is built into the laptop, so how can i disable it??? i have no idea how to, i tried putiing the remote in a different room but it did not work....
so plz how can i disable it.

It should show up in the Device Manager (right click on the My computer tab, manage, then device manager.)
The thing is that if you do disable it , you`ll lose the remote control for the ~ console.
Not sure it`s worth it,but since the remote is built it, you`ll either find it in the device manager somewhere,or in BIOS(unlikely).
