Hopefully someone here will have some better first hand experience, but barring that...

Your best bet would be to head over to www.laptopvideo2go.com and look over some of the resources there. You might find some good comparisons. It's probably going to come down to installing different drivers and monitoring temps (HWMonitor, RivaTuner, etc).

Probably, 19X and 17X drivers will be out of images. They're basically crap for me. 18X drivers are the best for me.
I heard that 186.42 have the lowest idling temperature. You can try it thought(download at laptopvideo2go).
Currently, I am using 186.82(I found it's performance is slight better than 186.42 for my machine) and have 56C as my idling temperature on a 22-24C room temperature. If I am on 18C(air-conditional room), it will be 52C-54C as lowest idling temperature.

im running 186.81 official nvidia drivers and theve been the coolest for me yet. idle 48c or hours of gaming 50-51c
need the intel matrix storage manager loaded as well and give it 3 days to settle in.
ive got the 9800GT so 9600GT should be cooler.

51 degrees   that's got to be the lowest temp i've ever seen on a laptop GPU on load..... thats more like desktop temps!

My 9600M GT maxes at 85 degrees with the same driver....

My 9600m GT (DDR3) maxes around ~88-90C at max gaming for awhile, but i live in South-Central Florida so my ambient temp varies from 70-95F

There is no way a video card like 9600m on load runs just 2-3c warmer than it is on idle.

That's interesting temps...What's your homemade cooler like?

I would suggest a good notebook cooler, and clean out your exhaust vents. The truth is all the newest drivers pretty much downclock your GPU to the same clocks, which means that you are going to get the same temps most likely. So, it wouldn't matter what driver you use as long as it down clocks your GPU automatically when not in load.

my cooler is a staples file organizer with 1 80mm fan from an old power supply,2 120mm fans courtesy of CoomputerMD, I got an old dell laptop power adapter (19v) and a old router adapter (12v) and hooked them together and then hooked my fans up in a series and added an on off switch.

pic in a sec gotta shrink it

Agreed. The Air Blowing areas are just fit nice to my AS6920G as well.
    Top-Left = FAN
    Left = GPU
    Left-Center = CPU + HDD
Basically, this cooler cool down almost all important components which will release a lot of heat.

Doxs drivers are known to run hot for most of the GPUs, except for a very few exceptions. There is always a possibility yours could run cooler with one of the Dox's drivers, although the chance is very slim.

If you just want to keep your GPU running cool, stick with the latest Nvidia drivers, then u are good to go. Recent nvidia drivers won't make much difference for the GPU temp, as long as the powermizer is working fine, i can't
see how a "magical" driver can make your GPU run dramatically cooler than the others.

ok thanks, btw, what is better? downclocking through riva tuner or using the powermizer?

Powermizer downclocks the GPU itself automatically to save power if it detects no 3d activities, there is nothing you need to do.

If you want to manually downclock your gpu's max frenquency, u can try either rivatuner or nvidia system tool, they both can get the job done. Anyhow, i don't see a point of doing so as while you don't game, the gpu clocks will remain at 2d level, which in result will keep it running cool.

I suggest you download rivatuner and fiddle with it a bit, observe how your GPU behaves in different situations(idling/gaming/playing a video, etc), you will see all the different performace levels your video card has(usually 4 levels), then you will see there is really nothing you need to do, powermizer does it all automatically for you.

i've tried to underclock using riva tuner (to lowest possible 2d) but the temps are not decreasing by much....it's hovering in the upper 60's to low 70's....using powermizer, the same thing happened..

If your gpu's idling temp is upper 60 to low 70, then u are having some serious issues.
