hey
This is gonna make me sound like such a noob, but im dead confused as to how this works. Im looking to purcahse the Dell vostro 1500 and I can only really afford the T7100 processor, clocked at 1.8 ghz, but I really wanna play bioshock, and the minimum requirements say I need a 2.4 ghz processor. But because the Processor is dual core does that mean you double it ( so it would be 3.6 ghz in reality), or am I going to have to fork out on a diff processor to play the game?
Many thanks and I hope I havent made too much of a fool of myself from this question.

i think you should be able to play the game, because the 2.4 ghz speed requirement is for a pentium 4. A 1.8ghz core 2 duo should be able to handle the game well. Core 2 duo 1.8 ghz is about equivalent to a 3.0 ghz Pentium 4(correct me if I'm wrong).

The Core 2 duo's have a 40% speed increase over the P4 Extreme edition. Which was Intel's best processor until these modified Pentium 3's came along (the Core 2).
You should be able to..not sure honestly. From the research I've done that Unreal 3 engine that powers Bioshock is way to demanding.. Good news is Crysis should run fine lol..
buy it the laptop.. if you find it sucks.. send it back, then order a faster build lol. -
Is think it's better than the pentium d at 3.0.
Or about a 5~6 ghz pentium 4 in ideal conditions -

your going to need a good vid card more than your going to need a fast processor. the T7100 will do fine

A 2.33GHz Core 2 Duo beats a 4.0GHz+ Pentium 4 generally speaking. A 1.8GHz Core 2 Duo will probably beat a 3.4 or so GHz Pentium 4. It is hard to make the comparison because it's dual-core vs. single-core.
Any regular Core 2 Duo will be able to handle new games fine. It's the video card that is going to be your bottleneck and not the processor so you have nothing to worry about. Just make sure you get the top-end video card for that model (8600M-GT) and 2GB of RAM or more. There are actually performance increases with 3GB of RAM vs. 2GB in Vista with an Nvidia 8600M so if you're getting Vista order the minimum amount of RAM from Dell and then buy a 1GB and a 2GB module aftermarket. -
hey thanks for your help everyone. Im sorry for replying late. I lost connection to net for some reason and had to fix it.
Im gonna get the 8600 graphics card, and as of min you can only get the vostro with 2 gb of Ram from dell in the UK so looks like I wont have to do any upgrading myself.
Thank you for your help everyone. -
Even the T5470 (the one I have for my Vostro) can run this game fine--and like others have already mentioned, it's the GPU that's really the bottleneck when it comes to game FPS's.

The topic's pretty much been covered, but I can tell you that I have the T7100 in my Vostro 1500, and Bioshock runs great.
Or, at least as great as the 8600GT will let me...
core 2 duo T7100 1.8ghz, compaible of playing bioshock?
