im having an odd problem with cs 1.6.

For some reason i can run cs source at high settings at 1280x800 at 50-60fps.. and i get the same in 1.6.

Does this make sense to anyone?

Your verticle sync is on I assume. Go to the nVidia control panel and force it off. :)

For some reason, the text rendering in cs 1.6 absolutely wrecked my framerate. Never did figure out why.

well i think its normal to get higher in 1.6 cause 1.6 isnt as graphically demanding as source so that would be why to me...

You should be getting better frames in CS 1.6.

    Try this:
I think you havn't maxed out your fps. In CS 1.6, your FPS is maxed at 72 (for some odd reason), do this command " fps_max 100", that should help :D. If you've already done that, then update your video card drivers???

Also to help with your registry, do these commands:
    rate 25000
    cl_cmdrate 101
    cl_updaterate 101

That should help your shots reg a lot better.

Both games run natively on different APIs. 1.6 uses OpenGL, and the Source version uses MS DirectX. And the shaders used in CS:S are of a far higher quality, so it takes more processing power from the GPU, especially when running on high settings.

You could also try simpler things to improve the frame rate. Turn off services not needed during gaming, do a registry cleanup, and defragment the Hard Drive.

to the people confused to what i was complaining about.. it wasn't because source wasnt getting a high enough framerate.. but that cs 1.6 was almost the same as it is a MUCH less graphically intensive game. Hope that helps confusion.
