Turn your smoke settings to low and see what happens.

It's actually an issue with one of the updates to CS via Steam that Valve released this year (probably around the same time they screwed up Source on cards with less than 256MB of VRAM with massive texture thrashing problems) - they know about it (like they know about the texture thrashing) but refuse to acknowledge it. Their ridiculous answer is to buy a better video card - right, because a Go7400 or even an x200M should really have problems with a game from 1999.

The Source engine is actually one of the better ones if not the best one. It scales very well and is playable on some pretty low end computers.

Anyway back on topic you can try to OC your card. You can probably get it into the low 40s with smoke. I play CS and CS Source casually on my notebook with a X600 and I get a pretty significant fps hit when smoked as well. If you play competitively I would suggest getting a low priced, performance oriented desktop. Can be done for less than $600. When I play seriously I always play on my desktop.

Oh trust me, I know. I play it on my v2000z at 1280x768 in DX8.1 mode with most of the settings at high - except that because of an update released in October, texture detail can no longer be set to "High" on many lower-memory cards as the game will freeze due to uncontrollable texture thrashing about 1 minute in.

$4000 for Kevlar and a helmet, $800 for just Kevlar? That's the second most expensive helmet I've ever seen! And yeah, the Deagle got ridiculous - and it's getting ridiculous again. And the M4A1 being almost twice as much as a Bullpup, and more than a machine gun? Christ! At least the Bomb Defusal kit's price is fixed...

well my desktop is now my main pc/ cs server so it doesnt really work to well and i mean come on a 7400 go which is like a 7300gs in a desktop should be able to handle cs 1.6 i mean it takes 8mb of video memory to run that stupid thing. steam just breaks every thing cause they suck at life. also its not on the source engine.... its on the half life engine. not the half life 2 engine (aka source) in source when i get 30-40 fps walking into smoke i expect that but not good old 1.6
