My counterstrike source keeps "crashing with looping sound". I checked the steam site to see what came up and it said that it was caused by my soundcard.
The possible solutions were install the latest drivers for my sound card and to delete almost everything in my steam folder.
I did both but still the game crashes the same way. Anyone have any suggestions on how I can fix this, it's getting really annoying cos it always seems to happen when I'm behind someone about to knife them or when someone is rushing towards me and I'm trying to shoot em.

I really don't know what to say. Try googling your error. Other than that try a reinstallation. Sorry I can't help more than that. Good luck man.

I had this once, except the problem was my firewall not enjoying me playing the game. Make sure it is listed as an exception.

Theres no error message coming up so I can't really google that, I might try sound card crashes or something.
It's definately allowed through the firewall.

The thing is the problem doesn't always happen, and sometime I can go for like an hour without a crash. It just seems totally random. Add to that I tried searching the steam forums to see if there were any solutions and there search function doesn't work for me PLUS it won't let me register there so I can start a new thread.

What sound card do you have?

If you're using a Dell and have that Audigy software crap installed, get rid of it.

I've got an Asus F3Ja and the soundcard is a realtek hd audio. Got the latest drivers from realteks website but still have the same problem.

I suggest reinstalling DirectX from Microsoft's website, see if that fixes anything.

Are you only having problems with the sound?

theres no problems with the sound at all. Basically what happens is that at some point in the game, and its totally random could be 30secs into a game could be 30 minutes, it crashes and I get looping sounds. According to the steam website thats a soundcard crash.
I'll try reinstalling directx 9 now, see if that makes a difference.

try dx 7. I had the same problem with my ATI card and dx7 fixed it then i went back to dx9 and it worked again.
Try mat_dxlevel 7 in consol while at main menu in game. See if it crashes.

Ok spoke too soon, it's still crashing. And this time while I was rushing in assault, pretty annoying for me, means someone got a huge bounty for ending my 25 killing spree

My game doesn't crash but my frame rate falls from 100 to 14 suddenly when there is a lot of shooting. I tried to decrease graphics and modify cfg file ir order to disable dynamic lights. I put everything on min and after on max. And i think my probleme is because of the sound.

that actually sounds more like graphics, did you try turning off vsync and setting max_fps to your refresh rate?
