I got something weird going on:
I normally get in the 100 fps (like 130) ingame when playing Counter-strike: source.
I stopped playing css a few months ago and i started playing games like bioshock, crysis demo, cod4,...
All those games run good ! (Online i get mostly 60 fps in cod4)
Now: I wanted to play css and it LAGS ! (i get like 30 fps and that SUCKS for css !)
I used the stuttering fixes thread (for cod4,...) and it helped but now i can't play css any more![]()
I hope you guys can help me out
EDIT: I have always played css WITHOUT OC
When i stopped playing css is started with OVERCLOCK (for games like cod4)

Fresh install of drivers. Have had this problem two times, dont know what caused it but a fresh install of drivers does the trick ( I also uninstall rivatuner as well when I uninstall drivers)
Or you could try to see if somehow your fps has been capped in css to 30
to change that put in "max_fps 500" in the console and hit enter -
I even installed them right:
- I uninstalled the driver in configuration screen (official uninstaller)
- I rebooted my laptop in safe mode and used driver sweeper
- I rebooted my laptop in normal mode and installed the new (169.21) driver

masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
try removing the overclock. source games tend to not like it... -
Try what masterchef said about running css with default clocks.
Try putting max_fps 500 in the console
By fresh install I mean install them again, here is the way I do it.
Go to device manager and right click on unistall on 8600M GT
Uninstall RivaTuner
Reboot into safe mode
Run DriverCleaner/Sweeper or whatever its called and run CCleaner.
Run regedit in safe mode and search and delete all hits for "nvidia" and "RivaTuner"
Boot into windows, install the drivers using the setup.exe as the have disk method seems dodgy to me as I dont know what to select either reinstall driver or update driver. -
And other games like bioshock, cod4,... WITH OC -
I have an average FPS of 170. I noticed this morning when i started steam it auto-updated itself, and now any server i enter even with a 5-15 range ping it stutters. So i asked some other people in the servers i played in today and they all say there having the same problem. I mean its still playable but i think the new update f*cked some sh*t up...

I can play normal again -
Man, thank you for the advice!
I came online to look for an answer to my problem, the same one the OP had. For some reason my FPS went down dramatically on CSS, but not other games. I followed these steps and it's completly back to normal. I was worried it was a more serious computer problem.
css strange stuttering
