I used mobmeter to monitor cpu temps (not sure how accurate it is) and I notice the temps vary from 45C to 55C when the fans kick on and off under normal load. Are the mid 50s safe for CPU temps?

Definitely safe.

Your good.
-
yeah ur fine
-
Have a look at the cooling guide anyway...to learn to how to keep it that way.
-
alright awesome. I should probably look into cleaning out some dust bunnies as it's been a few months already.
-
Also you might wanna use HWMonitor (for GPU/CPU/HDD temps) or Coretemp (CPU only). These are the best imo

Hey
Thought I would comment
Got a new T8300 Penryn and im running at 40-42 with just internet apps on no gaming, so not sure if that is below the normal old processors? -
40C is good.. my laptop is overclocked and i get about 54 celcius on internet browsing
-
you overclocked your CPU too?
If your using firefox expect higher coretemps, its a damn cpu hog. Try using IE watch it not go over 48c with a load of tabs open.
curious about cpu temps
