My z81sp handles HL2, farcry and quake4 perfectly. When i try to load FEAR, during the installation of about the 3rd or 4th disk it tells me that there was a cyclic redundancy error, i hit ok, and it exits the whole thing and takes me back out to windows.

    Any ideas???

I'd do your Windows Updates if you haven't already done so. If that doesn't work, maybe try a Windows Repair.

Hm . . if that is the case, then I'd try the discs in another computer to see if they work.

No doubt disc problem! have your disc check for any scratches.. or you can send it back to the store you bought it from.

BTW some drives are too sensitive so it may or may not work with another computer.

I had a copy of Sim City 4 do the same thing to me. It took it over an hour to install and got stuck at 92% I think. Then spit out the CD and told me there was a "cyclic redundancy error". What's wrong is there is a burst error on your CD and the computer can't fix the problem or read through it. What you need to do is pull your cd out and get a soft lightly moist towel. Then lightly stroke the CD from the inside towards the outside and slowly rotate the CD around. A computer can read through a scratch that goes from the inside of the disc towards the outside, but it cannot read through a scratch or smudge that covers up a large section of the disc surface. After some cleaning your install should go just fine. If it doesn't, try to get your copy replaced or look online for an iso that isn't cracked in any way. And if you do clean the CD, make sure it isn't wet when you put it back in your computer. If it is your comp won't be very happy with you.
