I just received my d620 with the specs below and installed the nVidia 84.25 video drivers. When playing Battlefield 2, the game's frames per second seem okay running on 1024x768 with medium detail settings, however the game is VERY jumpy when there's a lot going on. It's almost more of consistent "delay" rather than slow FPS. Is 1 GB of RAM enough? Has anyone else experienced this? How does BF2 play on your d620 and with what settings?

    Core Duo T2400
    nVidia Quadro NVS 110M
    1 GB 667 RAM
    WXGA+ Screen
    100 GB 5400 HD

1gb is enough to play smaller maps (smaller in player size) fine. But 2gb is recommended, and 1.5 should be the minium requirement.

That's odd though, my desktop only has 1 GB of RAM and I don't have this problem.

it is all dependant upon the graphic resoultion you set, as well as the quality of the images / landscape / AA / AF / etc. etc. etc.

The higher it is the more pagefile is used and if it goes over his physical memory limit he ends up caching the rest to his HDD causing lag and jittering.

If your hard drive light is active all the time while gaming, then it's a RAM issue, because the system is using the Page file on the hard disk for virtual RAM.

The jumping issue could also be caused if you are on wireless. Check your ping.

With the system in my sig I usually use 1-1.3+ gb of ram on default settings in bf2. The reason I havent cranked them all to the max is the ram issue. If I do higher settings I will thrash even more. Although gameplay is perfect for me, most of the time Im on the edge of stuttering.

As far as wifi goes, I wouldnt recomend using any games on wifi unless you have FIOS and have the lappy parked right next to an A WAP/hotspot. That way you have tons of bandwidth up and down as well as dont loose any due to inconsistancies and building materials. I say this with experience as the only wifi I can use without stuttering is my moms A/FIOS wifi, and my aDSL wifi(even when 2ft or less distance from the lappy) has an upload bandwidth of ~384kbps which is not enough for modern games.

Just as a quick follow up to this thread, you can always ALT + TAB out of games to check out your page file by looking at task manager.

I completely agree with Liquidxit2, my desktop pc runs @ around 1.3 - 1.4gb pagefile during BF2 and the extra memory definatly helps put the limiting factor on the GPU or CPU and not on the memory.

For my Acer 5672wmli I had to turn the graphics down to 1024x768 and drop the quality down to medium / low to keep my PF below 1.0 GB. It could EASILY run at high but the memory limits me from doing so.

I ran some tests and at 1024x768 with settings on medium, my page file was just over 1 GB and the hard drive light was almost constantly on. When I bumped the settings down to low, the page file went under 1 GB and the HD came on a lot less. Looks like if I want to run higher settings I'm going to have to get another GB of RAM.

Yeha thats the deal with games like this. BF2 is more ram intensive then it is gpu intensive, although it does require a decent-ok gpu.
