Hi....I wanted to know if 256mb dedicated memory with upto 890MB turbocache or 128mb dedicated memory with 1400mb turbocache will perform better if turbocache is maxed? The graphics card in question is Nvidia 8400GS...Thats the only card HP laptops have...

The 128mb cards are in 14" models(which i prefer) pavilion 2750 and 2775 and 256mb in 15" models... I am not that big a gamer but i do want to play games like NFS on low or medium settings... so if the performance difference is much then i'l have to go with 15" which is also cheaper than 14" models... I will be running Vista....

    Thanx

No. Turbocache is a marketing gimmick.

Always dedicated memory is faster than turbocache (or shared memory). For the case of 8400m GS, due to its reduced bus (64 bit if I recall coreectly) hardly anything above 128MB RAM will help. The amount of RAM graphic cards can use efficiently is determined by its bus.

For example, in the case of a 8600m its bus is 128-bit, then 256MB RAM is its optimal amount ofr efficient use.

you mean that for runnig games (NFS, soccer on medium settings) on vista, the 128 mb 8400gs is useless as vista itself needs 128mb...??

I think you are confusing some terms. The RAM used by the CPU is different from the RAM used by the GPU (graphics card).

You're confused. Bottom line: your games will run fine, turbocache will not help.

just 1 more thing. hw gud is vista experience index? The laptops in question is HP Dv6700 (with 256mb 8400gs) and dv2700 (with 128mb 8400gs); other parts similar config...vista expereince index for GPU was 3.5 for the 1st and 4.0 for the second.. hw come?

    The index is completely inaccurate.

Turbocache is just used to make the total memory SOUND BIG BIG..
For example if u have 1 GB RAM ..does it matter how much HardDisk space u have for Cache?..

Go for 256 MB... it ll let u run new games such as Call of Duty 4 easily
