Okay I recently had a dell e1505 purchased for me, unfortunately I never had the chance to look over anything before the order was sent in. The video card ordered was the intel GMA 950. Now the only games I really play are mmorpgs (FFXI mostly) and while it's possible that GMA950 would be able to run the game I'd like something alittle better.

After browsing through this forum for some time I believe the ati radeon x1400 will suit my needs to be able to run this game and others I want to play. My question is.. how do I get that card in my laptop? The first solution that came to me was to just buy that video card and install it myself but I can't seem to find anywhere where I can purchase that card.. perhaps I'm searching for the wrong thing or something I don't know. That being said I also don't know what the cost of such a card would be. The next solution would be to send the laptop back and have dell add my preferred video card to it.

I'm interested in knowing which option would be recommended to do, I don't have much time to do this as I'll be returning to college at the end of this month so the faster method would be preferable as well. Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

i think your best bet would be to call dell and see if they can put one in for you if you send it back to them.

I'm not sure that upgrade is possible. With onboard graphics, I'm not sure if there is even a slot for a dedicated GPU.

from what ive heard, you cant upgrade if you have the GMA...you're stuck with it. ive heard you can upgrade if you have an x1300 or x1400 (dont know what you would upgrade to though), but you cant upgrade if you have the GMA.

that being said, only real option you have, is send the laptop back and order a new one with the graphics card you want

Nope you are stuck with integrated. See if you can send back to Dell and get a new lappy with dedicated GPU.

the E1505 runs the same mobo as the new 1520's it contains a pci x16 slot as does the E1505. Just a hint :)
