hi,
can someone tell me which graphics card is faster. The X700 or the X700SE?
Also, does anyone know where in the UK one can purchase a Toshiba Satelitte PSM71A-00S005
which is basically a PM-70 1.8 mhz (up to 2mhz)that runs X700 and xp pro. these beasts are rare to find. looks like Australia has some groovy new models but they have X700SE??and they're in australia!!
thanks

The 'SE' stands for '****ty Edition'
Serioulsy, though, the x700 is a pretty good GPU, the x700SE is the same, but stripped of what makes it good. Such as a few pipes, memory BW etc.
Steer clear of the SE. -

Agreed - ATI's "SE"-branded cards means they are the budget versions. I'm not sure of the exact specifications of the X700SE, but in the desktop world, the SE cards have a cut-in-half memory bus. For example, the 9800SE only has a 128-bit memory bus vs. a 256-bit for the 9800PRO/XT.
The X700SE also has slower memory, which is also bad - a good deal of performance these days comes from your memory. -
quick reply,
thankyou..
so would I be better off getting the X600 version 256 (128 hyper)ram than rather the x700SE? or even the X700(if i can find one that runs xp pro on this planet somewhere). I'm going thru such a head spin at the moment whether to buy the X600 or X700..is there really that big a difference? I want to work mid level 3D grahics..i'm a computer animator more then game player..but

Yes, there is a huge difference in performance between a regular X600 and a regular X700. In your case, if you have to choose between the cards (X600 or X700SE), I'd still take the X700. It, while underpowered compared to a standard X700, will still be better than the X600. The X600 is getting quite outdated. The X700 has a much newer core and is better suited to playing games.

SE = Sub-ordinate Edition
LE = Labotomised Edition

col - I merged both of those threads you made, they're essentially the same question and can be answered in one.

i would say that any card that has 256mb of hyper memory (128 dedicated + 128mb shared), isnt worth it. you will find that they are most often budget cards, and will not provide the performance of decent card.
hope this helps.
pb,out.
difference between x700 and x700SE?
