ok, so im in a dilemma. my 9200m gs graphics card cant cut it with modern games, and as much as i love PC, playing with minimum res and ultra low details is sucking. (see dirt 2 @ultralow w/ 30% overclock)
so now im looking at 2 options. get an xbox 360, or make a diyDOCK with an ATI 5770. both options come out at almost exactly the same price.
im just wondering how long a 3dmark score of 9000 would actually last me before it too becomes obselete.
the 360 is the easy option, whereas the diyDOCK... well, isnt. as my electrical + computer knowledge is zero, i have no idea how tough the diydock will be.
so, please convince me to do the diydock or the 360, and please give me your opinions on both!
thanks a lot guys n gals.![]()

The DIYvidock will let you play games at higher settings. The games will look better.
You could buy a barebones notebook and stick your CPU, ram and HDD in it. -
I all seriousness though, I'd prefer the DIY ViDock purely for the fact that games will look better on it than the 360. -
DiY ViDock fo' shizzle!
If your sure you can break 9k on 3DMark06 then it will be so much better than an XBox. -
DIY Vidock with ATI 5870... u should get 20K 3D Mark 06 score at least...
-
unless you're into strategy or rpgs, I'd go with xbox 360; it's meant for games and there's tons of people playing...

xbox360 = Buy, set, forget. Easy solution.
DIY ViDock = More risk but potentially better bang-per-buck. You'll virtually double your performance if upgrade to an expresscard 2.0 notebook reusing the same bits. Note pitfalls with Win7: only < 2.5GB RAM reported as usable on *some* systems. If in doubt, suggest negotiate a money-back guarantee with hwtools (PE4L/PE4H) AND use a loaner HD4xxx from a friend to do the initial testing. Return parts if doesn't work out. -
xbox 360 = potentially less hacks; most people are amateur players, so multiplayer games are easier.
pc = potentially more hacks; most people are better at playing, so multiplayer difficulty is generally higher -

The 5870 (desktop), is nearly as powerful as a GTX 295! -

I can't really comment too much since my Xbox360 has been sitting on the shelf for the last 6 months doing absolutely nothing. Getting the Xbox360 will be much easier in the short term but anything to do with the PC gaming will be more effort in the short term but much more rewarding in the long term.

ah! im swinging between the 2 again. my girlfriend came round earlier and she has a ps3 and likes her gaming too, but not being able to play multiplayer when shes here is swinging me back to the xbox. hmm.
its just the lack of AA on the xbox thats putting me off. if it had 8x AA i would go for it without hesitation... but it just doesnt look right with no aa.
*sigh* -
