I am looking into ordering a vaio SR but I have a doubt regarding the graphics options. I am NOT looking into playing games so I would prefer to go with the GMA 4500mhd option if possible. However, I will be plugging my laptop into a higher resolution LCD monitor using the VGA out. Will the GMA chip support the higher resolution or do I need to go with the dedicated ATI card for this?
    Thanks in advance..

The GMA 4500XHD should be fine for that. The new Intel cards are getting actually decent... so it should be plenty able to do that I think.

Don't worry, it's more than enough.

Last time I hooked up my old Acer with GMA 900 to a 24" LCD 1900x1200 and it worked just fine.
The new Intel 4500 will be even better than GMA 900.

Intel spec for my old GMA 900 is:
    - Analog Display : Up to 2048x1536 @ 75 Hz refresh
    - Digital Display: Flat panels up to 2048x1536 @60Hz or digital CRT/HDTV at 1920x1080@85Hz
