I ordered one of these great looking machines about 2 weeks ago, and since I have a friend who lives in America and is bringing it over with him, it still hasn't arrived (hopefully not long to wait though!! :D ) I was just wondering about this things gaming capability. Despite spec's this HAS GOT a 512 gfx card, a 7600go, 256 built in, 256 RAM (this is the reason some of you may be having trouble with memory eating with this lappy!). It also has a 1.77ghz core duo processor and 1 gb of RAM. I know the 7600 is pretty mid-range, but I wondered how I could expect to play Oblivion / Hl2 + mods on this rig?
    help much appreciated! :)

If you mean will it play games to keep itself occupied when your not using it errr no... lol.

It should play less requiring games such as zoo tycoon e.t.c. but I think you'd be hard pressed to play any of Valve's first person shooters or even World of Warcraft.

The go7600 is more than enough to play world of warcraft. It also plays CS source very well. Oblivion will be a bit hard for the go7600 but it will definately run. Nothing true about not running WoW.

Would it really? I doubt with 256MB of RAM a lot of these games would handle!!! Hang on later he says he has 1GB of RAM - well which one does he have?

The 1.77 GHz processor wouldn't play HL2 - they recomend a 2.7GHz one for Lost Coast and I think it's something like that for the big game as well.

I might be wrong but I think I've got my facts right.

When seeing if it will play something DON'T JUST LOOK AT THE GRAPHICS.

It has 1gb of ram :D sorryif I was unclear. I meant the graphics card has 256 of built in memory and 256 RAM memory (turbocache). The system has overall 1gb. Sorry if its a bit confusing :S

That's a single core, I'm not only looking at the graphics card.

It is a very big misconception video RAM says all about a video card. 256 Mb is enough most of the times. There are factors that are a lot more important than video RAM. I would consider however to upgrade your ram to 2Gb if your computer is running slow, the 1 Gb ram might be a bottleneck.

Still, your computer is very capable of playing games, nothing to worry about.

Yeah that was suggested to me... I think it's DDR2 SDRAM, only trouble is I think it comes with 2x512 to make the 1gb :. hasn't got any free expansion slots :S Gonna join the 1.5gb lot :D
Does Vista Home Premium have the capability to turn flash drives into removable RAM? Or is that only ultimate?

That is possible for any version of Vista (home premium for sure). It is really not as fast as system RAM, but it helps a bit (I think somewhere I read it can improve boot times of ie. photoshop with 20% less boot time, pretty good).

First see how your computer runs and then look if you need the extra RAM, I'd say.

What?? This card will play any Valve game like BUTTER on full settings. I played CS:S on a GeForce 2 MX with 64MB on low settings and it was perfectly fine. Source graphics are the most easy going graphics out there I think, they don't need much to run well. I played CS:S and HL2 on full settings with my old ATI Radeon 9800 PRO.

should play HL2 no problems. I am not used to the toned down notebook versions of hardware as I have just recently gotten intrested in getting one, but for a desktop a 6800GT can play HL2 easy.

    Also for game recomended requirements.

2.7ghz was probably the standard for a Pentium 4..... Its hard to say "XXXghz will play this game" since the evolution of cpu's has changed a 2.8ghz P4 is about equal to a 1.2-1.4ghz C2D and most older games are based on P4's.

Even new games still use that standard. I wont be supprised if soon you see somthing like "2ghz C2D or A64" actually specifying the processor type for newer games in the future to help eliminate that confusion.

Definitly get 2gb of ram for gaming by the way. It helps ALOT, probably even more so in a notebook since you have slower hard drives, you want to avoid page filing by all means.

Your set up should be able to play any valve game with its eyes closed.

The only reason why it wouldn't play well would be the OS: Vista. Otherwise, it plays well on most games on low to mid settings and on older games mid-high settings. You might want to uninstall the NAV/Mcfeces ISS and install something else though
