This game can probably only be played full speed on a Geforce 6800 on a desktop with a powerful CPU. This game is built to ru full speed in the future and set a new benchmark for all hard ware. The game is suppose to look great in low settings. Everyone will still be happy with it in a year when its better looking still then games coming out then.

Brian does have the Fujitsu P7000, here's a link to his first thoughts on it

    http://www.notebookreview.com/default.aspx?newsID=1950

too bad people are stealing a game if that's what you allude too, sucks when a company like id soft spends 4 years working on something only to have it stolen.

you are right it is a resource hog though, but it is cutting edge.

Well if you going to get a game, it is best to play on the best setting. For doom 3, it is called "ultra graphic". my friend's computer can't support it at all. computer just restart when you try to play. why would you wanna play at low setting, and no the game looks like shyt at low setting. graphic card tend to be more useful at gaming then a cpu these days. a 3.0ghz is more than enough for all gaming purposes, but 9200/9600 tend not to be enough tehse days. As stated earlier. The game was made to be used in high settings at a later date when higher graphics are offered etc. The high setting requirements are not even available yet on even the desktops.

The low settings were made to look great on the required specs.

I've already heard from people that have lower spec system then your friends and Doom is working just fine.

well I got to say I'm disapointed :-( This game looks pretty good but other then being scary I don't think I like it, I did just get it tonight though. Online really stinks! There is no one online and I only got to play 1 person at a time. Please tell me I'm missing something, I really really like Unreal 2004 much more right now!

Because IDSoftware dose such good graphics engines I'm hoping some people make some good online mods to play. I loved Doom its really what got me into PC gaming and other then making the game look good I'm not impressed with it, I think Unreal 2004 is much more fun! I also hope they come out with a patch so we don't need the CD to play the game I really hate that! Like we can't copy it anyway? Its just something else I have to carry.

Anyone know how to copy the play CD for Doom3? I'm trying to use Alcohol 120% doing a disk imagie then burning it to a cd. I just don't know why type of imagie file to burn. I know there is some kinda copy pertection but I don't know what kind so if anyone knows about this it would help. I just don't want to carry around the original, Id much prefer a backup copy.

Ok well I read all your post and thank you for providing so many to look through. The top one seemed the most detailed and helpful I followed it exactyl but the copy I made still dosen't work. When I try to start the game a box starts on the start bar with nothing in it and the doom cd screen comes on the desktop. After that it is frozen, I used task manager to close it, the doom.exe is only 6MB at the time it freezes. I think I'm out of CD+R's though, so should I try a CD+RW?

Well, first of all, crap. What the heck is with all of this "copy" the doom3 cd and "download for free" talk? If you can afford a notebook, then you can afford the game. Don't buy the game if you think your notebook won't be able to run the game well.

I am really disappointed that this kind of talk is acceptable on notebookreview.com and would expect the moderators to lock the thread and discourage the piracy of computer software.

I'm good friends with the id software animator that worked on doom 3 and have the utmost respect for his work and for id software. I haven't forked out $80CAD for the game yet, but I plan to. Think about all the hard work that went into the production of this game...

I have to agree with Mal on this...this website is not to be used to promote piracy of any sort. So please note this for future posts.

Mal, sorry if the previous posts offended you, let's hope that we can stick to reviews and such so that I don't have to use locks, etc.

    PLEASE READ

I only get one more post on this certain thread because Mal and Nesbo have complained about piracy issues so I'd like to at least give my side. I said I wanted a backup copy of the game; I bought the game and have more respect for idsoftware for making games then any other company. They created the original doom that got me started with PC gaming. I totally agree with both Mal and Nesbo this forum should not be used to promote Piracy and that its wrong and unfair to the people who put in so much work to create a game. I do think that I should be allowed to create a backup copy of a game though. I carry my computer around with me 5 days a week and I like to have my 2 favorite games (Unreal04 & Doom3) with me incase I have nothing to do while I'm at school. If disc one for Doom 3 was to get scratched I'd be out 55$ I'd like to have a copy to carry around with me incase it got damaged. I backup all my school files and programs for the same reason, something could happen to the computer. I understand that the information I was looking for could help someone else do something illegal and make a copy of the game and thatÂ’s a bad thing. On the other side we are all mature people on this site that know the difference between right and wrong. We are all here to learn and help each other too. If someone wanted to make an illegal copy of the game there are a lot of sites out dedicated to that and very easy to find.

Mal where in this thread did anyone mention downloading the game for free? And where did anyone say anything about getting an illegal copy to test if the game will run on their systems as you implied?

The last thing I want to say is I'm a little upset that the moderators just did what mal said and locked the forum right away. I think if they read the entire thread they would see its not about stealing, maybe in the future I should put more energy into stating the reason I want to know something but I thought it was clear enough I just wanted a backup copy. Lastly thank you to Brian for temporally unlocking the thread so I could at least make a reply. I didn't like being called a thief with out a chance to defend myself.

I understand where your coming from. It's not illegal to make copies of games, its just illegal to distribute them. You bought the game, you own the rights to use it and make copies for your own use. It is unfair that you are being falsly accused of making a malicious post. You are a great help and asset to these forums.

    Hey DaGreek,

I was not referring to your post at all. I have no problems with making back ups. I was more concerend about a post mentioned something like "msg me if you want a copy of the game"

I didn't lock this thread, and was surprised that someone did. Sorry for the misunderstanding! :)

I geuss Brian locked it but he unlocked it too and listened to what I had to say. It just sounded like you were refering to me because I was the only one in the thread that mentioned copying the game. But I didn't see anywhere in the thread someone saying to getting a copy from someone else. That is a whole different situation.

I'm sorry guys, i can't believe my review on how averatec 3220H can start all these legal issue about distributing games. I feel so regret giving this site to who ever asked me through email. But oh well. I think they are over charging the games. Since i only downloaded teh game to play single player it is alright. just to tell you if you download the game from where i told you to, u only can play single player. I will listen to Brian and not to distribute the site anymore

a good site tho, download all possible games, newest games goes on there in 1 day. lol not trying to encourage u ppl to dl, but ya

Okay, soapbox time. I've received a couple of emails from people concerned about this thread. Downloading software that's pirated is not okay, we don't condone it. Please don't post sites that have downloads for such pirated software and please don't offer for people to message you if they want to know how to get such stuff. Unfortunately it's all too easy to find such sites on the web, but let's not promote it here, software developers work years to produce software and games and we need to change the mentality that since something can be copied easily or is "just a bunch of 0s and 1s" then it's okay to distribute freely.

If you wish to try a game out there's lots of stores that will be demoing this game (Doom 3) on computers, there are tons of reviews on the web and Amazon.com has a sale right now in which it's $44.99 with a $10 rebate so it's really quite affordable [ :)]

99% of people in these forums are very well meaning and I know you all agree with me on these points. But just wanted to be clear where we stand!

thanks all, and have a nice day!

I'm asking for a demo, not a full game program. There are tons of demos online that are not illegal and let you play for a day etc. That's what I'm asking for.

I wish they had a demo out for Doom3 also, then I wouldnt have bought it! I've read somewhere they are making a demo so I would think it will be out soon. I wasen't saying anything about you, I only read the post right before mine and posted a reply. I think demos are a must when we have to spend so much money on a game.

    1) I'm waiting for the demo to come out before making a buying decision. If you dont know if youll like a game or not then wait for the demo! ! !

    2) A lot of stores like Micro Center (and my local custom shop)
have a high end system setup for people to play D3 so people
can see how it works on the top end hardware hoping people will
buy it. So find out where you can try it and go! I did! I like it!

the game is boring, you always know whats going to happen. You can tell everytime your walking into a place something will jump out. I think the story of the game is kinda week too. I love the graphics it is really amazing! I really look forward to any online mods they can make. I really buy games to play them online and this on is a big disappointment so far so I'll wait and hope for mods. I loved the others dooms and owned them all. I just think this one they ended up working so hard on the technology to drive the game they didn't speed the time needed to think out the game play. It's like a movie with great speacil effects and a really bad script.

    Doom 3 has a Demo available... http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/doom3/index.html?q=Doom+3

It works, that's all I'll give it. Never really got into these types of games.

I dont know, I enjoyed it. Sure you knew theres gonna be zombies or imps ahead but they mix it up enough that you are never 100% sure where they are coming from. One panel may explode and a couple imps jump out but in another room its just a pnael.

You get to recognize the spider holes after a few times tho.

But theres phases where one monster type doesnt show for a while and its one kind or another.

I think I enjoy far cry more because it is revolutionary (huge huge maps that feel like outside for the first time ever, with lots of motion in swaying trees etc so it feels super realistic), but doom3 was great fun though more evolutionary, same as last dooms but nicer looking. The monsters in doom are great and I enjoyed the storyline. One of the first fps I finished to the end because there seemed to always be something new (though some monotony around the middle i agree).

I was hoping for more of a run & gun style game. It turns out the whole game plays like this:

    1. Walk down a hallway
    2. Enter a room from which you hear monster noises
    3. Walk past a trigger point (or pick up a trigger item), monster spawns in front of you
    4. Monster spawns behind you while you fight the first monster
    5. Enter hallway
    6. GOTO 1

The graphics are pretty nice. Physics is totally nonexistent...maybe you can kick a chair around a bit, or bump a hanging light fixture, but that's it. Really, all they have going for them is lightsourcing. From the look of it Half-life 2 does everything else better, and it's going to play better to boot. I can't really figure out what id were doing all this time if this is the best game they could come up with.

I was hoping for something a bit more like the old Doom games, with lots of running and fighting and senseless use of ammo, but I guess I already bought that game a long time ago, when it was called Serious Sam 2...which incidentally has a better plot than Doom 3.

    Hey Vexin,

How did you get Doom3 to run good at that res? I downloaded the Demo and could only JUST and i mean JUST run it at 640x480 on low and medium.

It was VERY jerky and lots of Lag.. was kinda crap!

I was using it on my 5150 Specs below. I might try it on my desk top later.

Also, i downloaded the demo for the new Tribes game.. that ran sweet! :)) and the full game for JointOpps runs VERY SWEET! :)
