i just installed a driver for my nvidia card for windows vista 32 bit. I have noticed that my laptop is using about 5% more RAM than usual. Is this normal and if not what can i do to fix it.

Did you have a driver installed before? There is probably some sort of Nvidia application running. Press the Windows key + R to bring up the Run prompt, then type in "msconfig" without the quotes, hit enter, and then go over to the startup tab when the window comes up and you can select/deselect items you want to run at startup.

about once every week my computer automatically installs new drivers for my graphics card. Is this good or will it interfere with drivers i installed myself?

Via Windows Update? The drivers it is installing are overriding the ones you installed.

Well for video card's it could be an issue. I accidently didn't see Window's update for my 7900GTX and when I restarted I got a weird distorted picture. It was then I realized that I forgot to "uncheck" that option.
