on the LV2G site it lists 101.17 as the lastest XP driver but I am successfully using 165.01 on XP Pro SP2.

Is the 160.x reserved for vista only or is ok for xp/vista?

Also, is the 165.01 a beta drivr cos i cant seem to find much on it?!

Finally, whats the latest "safest" driver?

I upgraded from 84.61 as CS was giving me trouble with the text. After using the new drivers the problems went away. Also the driver is faster than the old one so i really want to keep it. Ive had no problems except twice HL2 has quit and i get an error message saying "failed to lock vertex shader". :( I hate driver instability!

edit: just got a new error - memory failed to read and an index buffer error :S?

IIRC the 160-series is Vista-specific, but many XP and Vista drivers seem to be backwards compatible.

I would just recommend staying with XP drivers for an XP system, since the Vista ones might have special changes made to fix Vista bugs and DX10 stuff.
