Which would give me better performance, a dual geforce 770m SLI or a single gtx 880m?

770M SLI has the edge in raw performance, but 880M (if it works properly) will give you the better overall experience.

Is 870M SLI an option? That would be the best choice.

770M SLI will outperform the 880M in any SLI-optimized game. SLI-unoptimized ones and ones which do not use SLI at all will perform worse on the 770M SLI setup, of course. Games which hit their maximum performance limit on either setups (say 60fps etc) it won't matter other than if the 770M is using SLI for that 60fps, both cards should run fairly cool.

The reason I ask is because I returned my alienware 18 laptop which came with a dual 770 SLI due to light bleeding and now I'm thinking to get a replacement Alienware 18 again with the same setup or to get a slightly cheaper ASUS G750JZ which comes with an 880 but I will lose the mSATA slot and the screen will be smaller obviously
