Can anyone explain "dual channel" ram. I'm thinking about swapping out my 2gb dual channel for 4gbs. I know vista can only support up to 3.xx gbs but i figured it would help my performance. Also does xp pro support 4gbs/ which vista does. Thanks

vista need to be 64bit. otherwise like xp it will not see all 4gb.

Dual channel is a configuration which can effectively, double the bandwidth of memory given the the system. It can be very useful in some circumstances and pointless in others. If you are thinking of upgrading RAM, its better to consider the amount of RAM, and disregard dual channel.
Even if you go with 3 GB, dual channel will still be somehwat active, anyway. It will run in asymmetric mode, which increases bandwidth, but doesn't neccesarily double it. -
