I don't think it's possible to upgrade your graphics card on a laptop :/

DirectX is a collection of APIs for handling multimedia and games, made by Microsoft. DX10 is the latest iteration, and has support for a lot of great visual features. DX10 cards would be graphics cards that support DirectX 10, and they should be out for laptops by this summer.

It's very likely that none of today's notebooks will be compatible to future dx10 video cards.

Agreed. I think the closest that we are going to come with the current hardware is DirectX 9L for compatibility with DX10 games (unless I have it backwards).

In almost all cases, upgrading your video card is Not an option. You kind of purchase a notebook in one solid unit unless you put together a barebones system, which still no chance in upgrading your video card. As for DX10, we are just broaching the time where we will see DX10 cards in desktop models, with the wait for DX10 found in notebooks a little further down the line. There are numerous threads that expand on DX10 cards available.

Notebook GPUs are not upgradeable and there are very few exceptions. Please read through the GPU guide for more information.
