before you get excited its 34 days til the first trailer and theres nothing on the site.

But before you get bored, 34 days from now should be a pretty awesome trailer.

This game is being made by the main elderscrolls team that made oblivion

Fallout was a great game back in the day oblivion is great today with an incredible amount of detail

nobody is more obnoxious than fallout fans so Im sure they will complain... but i think this should be the best game of the year.

I just want to see what the oblivion mod community does with fallout 3

i hate being the dumb one, but why should this game be any good? is it because it's been developed by bethesda or what? were the first two games really that good? because this's the first i hear about the game, and i noticed that many people out there've been looking forward to it.

One of the best RPG's ever. It's a post-apocalyptic game, happens in a world which has suffered a nuclear war.

No, in fact many of us are worried that because Fallout 3 is developed by Bethesda, it'll suck.

It's a really good 2D RPG with guns and rocket launchers and awesome character skills/leveling system. If you're an RPG fan, you need to get this. The collector's edition is probably $10.

I think you can get in on the PS2 and/or Xbox as well as the PC, although it's probably a modified version I'd imagine

only get the pc version. fallout 1 came out in 97 and 2 came out in 98...

both games were outstanding. they blew everything out of the water in the sci-fi rpg genre... veteran gamers have been waiting for a fallout 3 for years... i gave up hope...

i cant wait to see what bethesda will make.. i think it will be a pretty decent game.. but i know it wont make me gittery inside like the original games did... take me back to my voodoo days!

there was a fallout console game

    I cant remember its name.

It is related to the pc games only in that it is set in the same post nuclear america.

there was also a game called fallout tactics for the pc which was quite good.

There's Fallout 1/2/Tactics for PC and Brotherhood of Steel for PS2 and Xbox which I hear is terrible. I've only played 1 and 2, best games ever and I still play them at least once a year, best RPGs of all time!!!!!!! :D

Ya it is very interesting because bethesda actually paid 6 million dollars to use the fallout name.

But everyone who played the first games when they were new is in their 30s.

If any of you remember the oblivion teasers the first movie will probably show about 2 secs of the actual game 20 secs of a close up of the first in game movie and a professional voice actor

I played the first two games when they were new. I'm 25. My brother played them too, he's 21.

Anyway, I am so nervous of this that it's not even funny. I don't trust Bethesda to make a Fallout, I fear it's going to be "Oblivion in the future".

Which would suck. Badly. Oblivion is the ultimate quantity over quality game. And yes, the amount of content is impressive, but the game isn't particularly good. And even if it was, it'd still be a completely different genre, one that has nothing to do with Fallout. The two series are about as far apart as you can get while still calling your game a RPG.
I'm not convinced Bethesda 1) understands that Fallout is a very different type of game from Oblivion, and 2) have the skills to *make* a game that's so different from Oblivion.

Oh, and 3) I hope like he'll they've hired some decent animators and artists... Please.... :D

As others have said, avoid the console versions of the old games like the plague. On the other hand, if you haven't already played them, get hold of the original PC games asap. They are brilliant, even today.

And yes, the big Fallout fansites are sickeningly obnoxious... But there are still tons of Fallout fans who just want a good Fallout game and don't get a kick out of being pricks and insulting everything and everyone... :)

No way, especially since being pricks and insulting everyone in the first two games usually resulted in fast leveling and instant gun upgrades :D

Ya Id actually rather play another oblivion than another fallout.

a lot of people might feel differently. fallout was great in its day

Its just the attention span of gamers is different today.

Im not going to go through 100 turn based battles. back in the old days a rpg meant it split to a seperate combat screen and it simulated moving your little pewter men in Dungeons and Dragons style.
Only after fallout it ended. Its over. As great as fallout was in its day i wouldnt recomend anyone try to play it i doubt youll get through it.
Going into baldurs gate rpgs were real time fallout was like the end of its type of game.

The back story to fallout was great though apply it to something modern.
Like I kind of said already, I doubt there are enough fallout fans to actually make 6 million in sales, this is a game sold mostly by bethesdas name.
I honestly think they did it for creative purposes they were all fans of fallout.

Ok if we make comparisons between say TES: Daggerfall and the original Fallout, I'd have to say Fallout was slightly more addicting simply because it was less repetitive and more creative.

Hopefully, if we were to compare TES: Oblivion to Fallout3, it will be a close call as well.

Oh, I meant being pricks in real life, not in the game... :p

And I don't see why Fallout's battles couldn't be sped up if you think that's neccesary. (But hey, FF is/was (haven't kept up) turn-based too, no one complains about that).

Yeah, looks nice... I think the mk3 power armor looks pretty neat too... (Assume it must be mk3, since Fallout 2 had mk2, and this looks different).
Has a certain home-made look, like "normal" people (not Brotherhood of Steel or Enclave) have been trying to repair/improve it

Bethesda is making this game? While I admire how big they make games, their dungeon design is too repetitive. Getting through each dungeon just to close each oblivion gate felt like the same for every level. Even the dungeons in the expansion pack all looked the same (The tree dungeon theme).

Hopefully they won't do another "copy and paste" dungeon design for this game.

    All,
Well, it has been 6 months since the last post here. I am in need of a new laptop. I know all that we can do is speculate at this time, but can you give me any anticipated guidance of what we might be looking at for system specs. I heard it was being made on a "souped up oblivion platform" but that is beyond vauge. I would just hate to buy a laptop not and find out in 6 months that it wont let me play the game (even at low levels) that I want to.

    thanks for any opinions!

If it builds upon the Oblivion engine, you will need a fast GPU. The 8800m GTX is guaranteed to get you nice framerates, I'm sure.

Im quite confident that a 8600m GT 256MB DDR3 will be able to play it with acceptable graphic settings?

This games was one of the reasons for the computer purchase :) Heil Fallout-series

Judging from the screenshots and comparing them to how call of duty 4 looks and runs on my machine, I don't think it'd be much of a stretch to say it's possible it will run medium-high settings on an 8600m. Not saying that I'm sure it will run medium-high, but depending on how much optimizing they can manage to do, it's not unreasonable to think so.

Yes that sounds reasonable. Seing the 8600M GDDR3 handles Oblivion quite nicely and their graphics engine being based on it, the game ought to pose no real challenge for the GPU =)

well that sounds like I have somewhere to start.. definitely a sweet card... now to go of shopping for a laptop that has it and is reasonably priced... I have seen 2 on newegg.com... but after reviews like that and from no-name companies... thats a dealbreaker there. good thing there are other sites. I sure do appreciate the input. Any other suggestions on prcessors and whatnot while we are talking about it?

I am right now thinking that an AMD chip may be ideal as they are a bit ceaper. Dont much have any brand preferences anywhere though. Just trying to spec out a machine for fallout III, sure seems as if the video card is going to drive the overall choice of everything else since I am aiming for a cheaper machine with that chip (o comperble in it).

Man, desktops are a nice bit easier than this.. hahaha!
    Thanks again!

    Exactly.

It's a pity, because Oblivion had so much potential. It's still a great game, but it could have been so much better.

I heard somewhere that the people at Bethesda were huge fans of the original Fallout games, so not all hope is lost. At least it's not going to be some heartless cash-in, but we'll see I guess. :D

I thought I stated it earlier, perhaps I didnt. It is because a) my current laptop is on the brink of death (power connector soldered to teh motherboard) b) some of the keyboard is dead c) the monitor flickers. I guess it will be totally broken in a month, two at best. So I need a new laptop. And I LOVED fallout 1 and 2. So I would like to play fallout III (the three key doesnt work). So if I am going to HAVE to buy a new laptop soon (as soon as this finally dies, whenever that is) and I WANT to play fallout, I dont want to buy a new machine now and 6-9months from now.

    logical now?

and yes, i have my reservations about the new fallout... all of these post apocalyptic things are frequentlly poorly done. (I am ledgend and the stand are both poorly done if you ask me, even 28 days latwe wasnt good, they all start off great but am never happy with the ending. Fallout 1 and 2 were both well done... not perfect.. but pretty darn good, hope that does it well... frankly thats a high bar to hold.. but I will hope until proved otherwise.

Seeing as it's based on Oblivion's engine, any laptop that can play Oblivion well should be able to play Fallout 3 at similar settings. I say similar since nobody really knows what Bethesda did to the engine. They could've really souped it up, but they could've done some very nice optimizations too. A laptop that can play Oblivion nicely should be able to play Fallout 3. Anything with an 8600mGT or higher should work seeing as that handles Oblivion quite nicely from what I've read.
