    Hey I'm looking for a fast paced FPS not in the COD series...any suggestions...it really doesn't even have to be a good game I just want to get better with mouse and keyboard after spending 20+ years playing consoles.

    Try out the quake live beta. It is a browser game so no cost, but hell is it fun (and addicting.) :D

    UT2004 was the best fast paced shooter not sure how many people still play.

    Fast paced but it was not just a spawn & die fest like some other "fast paced" games. It took strategy and skill.

    I think after playing on the console for 20 years you will find any FPS on the PC a lot more fast paced, thats what i found when I switched over anyways.

    assault cube, it's a free game. (around 40mb download).
    awsome graphics (3d). very fast paced.

    you might think it would be impossible to get a good game into a 40mb download but somehow they managed.

    Check it out, you will be impressed.

    Team Fortress 2 is a good one also its not as "hardcore" but its a cheap game and fun. How fast paced it is will greatly depend on your map and game type.

    I saw a thread on Gamespot before where someone had the same issue as you.

    Among the top recommended games were:

    GunZ
    Warsow
    Painkiller

    Both GunZ and Warsow are free and hella fast. Painkiller of course runs on the Havok engine and is similar to Doom and Quake.

    By the way, I think Serious Sam and any Star Wars Jedi Knight game are pretty fast. You may wanna re-play those again for practice...

    Team Fortress 2 is a lot of fun and it's also fast paced. I think it's only around $20. You can also try Battlefield Heroes which is a free2play game. It's a mid paced game similar to Team Fortress in the sense of graphics. You can also try Exteel (free) if you're into mech based combat. A lot of the shooters out these days for the pc are action packed.

    I've played a lot of the games listed, and they're all good.

    GunZ, while fun, gets kind of annoying. Could never figure out that wall slash climbing thing.

    Get Serious Sam and/or Serious Sam 2. You want fast paced, it will kick your butt. It's older, but also will get you prepped for the upcoming Serious Sam HD!

    I'd recommend the Battlefield 2 Special Forces expansion pack. You seriously don't have time to breathe like you do in the original game (once you spawn you better move quick and be ready to kill).

    btw, you need VERY low ping to play them, because they're fast.

    I can recommend Quake Live as well. A sub-100 ping will do fine for most games.
