Any tips for running FEAR on a X1400 or Geforce 6600 (not GT). I have to really reduce the settings to get it to work at a reasonable speed. Is there any trick to increasing the performance?

Turning off shadows will let you have higher overall settings. If you are playing offline, turn off all other processes, including AV.

How much RAM do you have in those systems? If it is less than 1GB than that is the source of your problems.

Also try updating the laptop's video card drivers:

For the desktop (I assume the 6600 is in a desktop), just go to Nvidia's website and download the latest drivers.

    Couple things to check:
-Make sure Anti-Aliasing is OFF - performance killer
-Turn the resolution down to 1024x768; as a matter of fact, 800x600 might be better, especially for the X1400.
-Turn down the shader and shadow quality

What settings are you currently running at?

turn off all volumetric light settings, they are performance killers, and really aren't even noticable. make sure soft shadows are off too, turning down the specs for the computer, and not graphics helps too, because at lower settings it doesn't put as many unnessisary objects into the game. Resalution is another thing you should turn down if you want to have the game set to decent settings, AF is another thing you can turn down, but the game looks good with it on alittle...

I can play at 1024x600 on my X1300. TUrn off shadows, set everything to low. Off ya go. Might be able to squeeze some medium settings with an X1400.
Oh and make sure AA/AF is all off.

No AA/AF, 1280x800, medium GPU settings with soft shadows off, high CPU settings. You'll net 30fps.

My setting for the fear demo are very wierd. The dell desktop i paly on has 512 mb ram , ati 9700 pro 128mb. 2.4 ghz p4 120gb 7200rpm hd.
I play with msot of the effects on maximum and some on medium. And grapghics are on minimum and shadows are on. And resolution is at 1024 by 768. It looks prety good. Can get chopy in certain palce in demo of extraction point. I find extraction point more demeanding.
