I noticed in the options for FarCry you can change the resolution to widescreen (mines 1680x1050) but I was wondering if that just stretches it or if it automatically increases the FOV aswell. My other question is what FOV does HL2 use because I want to know what to compare my other games too since HL2 has a true native widescreen option.

Also I installed all my games on my new laptop, so there are a ton of patches to install. Do I have to install every single one in order or can I just download the most recent ones and be done with it?

    Thanks

Far Cry natively supports widescreen resolution, you don't need to alter FOV at all.

The FOV value in HL2 is 75, but this does not mean it will work in other games as other engines may use different values (ie. use 100 as default)

I was just wondering about the FOV in HL2 because in games like COD and RTCW I have to enter a FOV and wasn't sure what was best to put. What about patches, do I need to do them all or can I just do the most recent ones.

IF you need help setting up FOV for widescreen games then look at this site which gives advice on most major titles out there Cleeeeek

As for patches, quickest way to get fully up to date is is v1.3, v1.32 and finally 1.33 (which you need to enable native widescreen support)
