freezes on GTA IV

does anybody know the minimum and recommended system requirement for playing this game?
I own Alienware M15x with intel i5 540M, 1GB ATI Radeon 5850, and 4GB of RAM.. it looks like I'm freezing for 1-2 second in every 5-6 second and it's really disturbing
I even tried to decrease the resolution and graphic detail in order to get more fps.. but the freezes remains the same
other games like Modern Warfare 2, Crysis Warhead, Devil May Cry 4, and PES 2010 runs great without freezing problem
is it something's wrong on my computer or this game is actually require quad-core processor?

GTA suffers from optimization issues, try reinstalling the latest ati drivers and running the ccleaner to get rid of any bits left over from previous versions.....you may also want to consider a fresh install and or download of GTA to see if that might be the problem

 

The game requires a Quad Core for decent play. I tested GTA IV on a 3.06 Ghz Dual Core i7 vs a 1.7 Ghz Quad Core i7 and it struggled on the Dual with lots of stuttering with exactly the same graphics Drivers similar to what you describe. You might be able to get good performance by using some custom configs though.

Many suspect that GTA IV only needs a Quad Core because it was poorly optimised.

Your issue could also be Driver related though. I got similar issues when I used to use a ATI 5870 in GTA IV.

 

update the game to version 1.0.4.0

I dont getting any stuttering & avg fps of 25-27 with the very weak rig in the sig on med settings & 1366*768 & quite low view distance

 

That sounds driver related to me. I can play with traffic density at 100 on my dual core although at 3.6GHz it is faster than the Dual core i7s.

If you try traffic density at 100 without a custom configuration that modifies how traffic density is really allocated, that would show different results.

 

my ati drivers are up to date and ccleaner and even advanced system optimizer had cleaned my computer
the fps is still fine without lag.. but freezes is also still exist

you can get them from games for windows live or you can download them from any site ...

1.0.0.0 makes the game extremely annoying .... I cant run it at all at this patch. you will need 1.0.1.0, 1.0.2.0, 1.0.3.0, 1.0.4.0 just google them and you will find them easily

but don't go beyond the 1.0.4.0 because the latter patches hit the performance like hell again but with 1.0.4.0 the game will be as smooth as a knife in the butter
