im getting this during any type of video playback (youtube, avi, disc, etc). it's typically a very subtle problem.. it's harder to notice in high resolution clips as it amounts merely to slight "noise".. but in lower res. clips, especially on full screen, you can plainly see "blockiness"..

i can't figure out how this happened, but it was NOT like this before. i have tried every possible fix (nvidia drivers, flash player updates, external monitor, multiple FULL SYSTEM RECOVERIES even)

hp diagnostic tool says my gpu is ok, but this MUST be a hardware issue, as i've tried multiple combinations of software/driver fixes.

i'm sending the laptop to hp for repair but i'm very concerned that they will not notice the problem and there not fix it. i am thinking it would be more helpful if i had a diagnosis to suggest to them before i send it in. ANY ideas at all?

Try an external audio system and see if the problem persists, maybe its from the laptop speakers. Also take in consideration that HP's service has a lot of complaints. A lot of people are complaining about scrathes and other minor exterior deffects.

when i say noise, i mean like a visual noise, not audible. for the record, it has the same problem when docked up also.

How can you rule that it's a hardware issue if you haven't tested it on other computers as well? Do other computers have this problem? Do other video websites have this problem?

It's not just websites, its dvd's, avi's. Doesn't performing full system recoveries with no difference imply a hardware issue?

Well, I would be inclined to say that low resolution video is supposed to be somewhat "blocky" in the words you described, but I'm going to take your word for it. Could you possibly provide a screenshot in order to demonstrate the problem?

This problem seems to affect more than just WMP, which has improved codec support in Windows 7 anyway.

perhaps i should also mention that even the image from my own webcam, like if i turn my webcam on and watch myself, is noticeably more noisy/blurry then it used to be. it's subtle, but there is a difference, it used to be very clear.

Is it possible that some video filter settings were messed up in the Nvidia control panel? Honestly I don't know what else could be the problem.
