I was wondering if I can make the switch between my actual 8600M GS with a 8800 video card (Nvidia) in a Acer Aspire 7520.. as my current 8600 video card is one of the faulty ones which overheats very easily.

If I am correct, the 8600m GS is integrated onto the motherboard.

I think I have seen some screenshots on the internet about how the 8600 can actually be removed from the laptop and changed with another one, so I don't think it's integrated...

The Aspire 7520 may not be MXM-compatible, or even support the MXM-III slot necessary to use anything faster than an 8600M GT. Locate your model's service guide and see if it mentions the MXM slot.

the graphics card is removable, but to my recollection the only graphics cards which work with it are the 8400Gs and the 8600mGS.
I do not think the 8600GT will work with it.
You really would not want to upgrade to an 8800mGtx, it would only make your laptop run even hotter.

If your graphics card is dead, and you have warranty, contact Acer and set up a replacement.
If your out of warranty, you can either buy an identical 8600mGs or you can part your system out, selling each individual part in order to fund a new laptop.

Yes, you could be right about that, the 8800 will make it even hotter, as I suppose the vent at the back and the fan exhaust size is different for a 8600 than for a 8800..

My video card isn't dead yet, but after only 4 months of using my laptop for gaming, the card isn't cooled enough, meaning that after 15 minutes of playing any game at all, it's getting so hot I can't even touch the underside of the laptop, and also games are stuttering for a few seconds every minute or so. I checked my GPU temp and it was way beyond 80 Celsius inside.. and I can hear the fan on video kicking in harder but to no avail. So, no dead card yet, but no gaming whatsoever either. Temp is getting past 75 Celsius only by watching movies too, so this is not good. I only hope Acer guys will not replace my actual card with another bad card..
