    Hi. I'm living in the UK and recently ordered an Asus G73 from America, specs as follows:

    My question is, when this laptop arrives, will i be able to play the PC games purchased off the shelf in the UK, or will i have to order them from America?

    you can order them from the moon if you want to. There's no region restrictions on Windows laptops.

    i think there might be for BluRay (and normal) DVD so i dont think that your ones from UK will work

    all bluray and dvd drives give you the option to change the region 5 times, after that it locks to the last chosen region, so, even that will work :)

    ah i though it was only once it could be changed - and if it was second hand and already used then maybe he might not have had the chance, but 5 times - that to me seems like too many

    Even if there is, there's software to prevent a region lock.

    Use VLC Media Player, it will play anything even DVDs from different regions.

    Also, it will be a good idea to change your keyboard/regional language/format to UK once you've got the laptop.

    I believe that there are also ways to entirely remove the region locks from DVD drives, and that they are also 100% legal since you're not breaking any copyrights if you already own the region-locked material.

    yeah.

    depending on the drive you can completely remove the region locking (set it to 0 or 8..depending on the drive) with a firmware flash.

    then you just have to run some lil program to turn off windows region locking stuff.

    it's what I did to my G1 (bought The Life Collection from the UK and sent it to the USA)
