is there any reason why games these days require 10gb + on hard drives?
is it simply higher res textures, larger game engines and audio?
i mean i was shocked when i installed UT3 which required 10gb
but then crysis only took half the space, while fear 2 will take up 12gb ( going by requirements)
any thoughts ?

well, I have seen that sacred 2 takes 20GB with the high res pack...
I think Age of Conan was 30GB, I havent heard anything about this game for a long time though...
I think a lot of it depends on the kind of the scenes you play in, Crysis doesnt have a lot different terrains so they can reproduce a lot of the same textures. But games like the others will have a lot of different terrains all with different textures, less opportunity to reproduce those same textures -
yep. Age of Conan needs like 30Gb if i remember correctly.

woah 30gb wow , so i guess its just more of every thing at higher resoluton then

Cutscenes also take a lot of space. I remember cutting the size of some games into half just by replacing the cutscenes with very short ones. If file format is a problem, just take the shortest cutscene from the game's files (check the one with smallest size) and copy it into the place of all others. That will probably save around 20% of the game's space. 20% of 30 GB = 6 GB, so it isn't just peanuts.
game installation, hdd requirement
