I just got a:
Pentium D CPU 3.0 Ghz (2 CPUs)
1022MB RAM
GeForce 6200 TurboCache 256 MB
Windows XP
is this a good graphic card?
i'm wondering what kind of games it can run.
i prefer games with beautiful environments!
anything from FPS to GTASA is fine~
and would it improve my gameplay by far if i upgraded the RAM? or is my graphic card too crappy to do any better?
-
That's a really old graphics card, I recommend games released 4-5 years ago for decent eyecandy.

Far cry should work! And the first half of the game looks pretty nice.
The gta series should run fine aswell.
I wouldn't expect oblivion to run but morrowind is a great game aswell which i still play.
Also i think you have plenty of ram for xp. -
First of all, congrats on your new PC. Don't let some of these people get you down about it being old or a piece of junk. It isn't compatible with newer games, but there's a huge selection of older titles that would work fine with it. Even some newer ones.
Oblivion would probably run using "oldblivion" mod.

Just visit www.eeeuser.com to see what games run on the Eee, which has even less specs than your laptop where I've run lots of older games successfully. See my post here:

for some suggestions. A few others to consider: Evil Genius, Beyond Good and Evil, TrackMania United (free download), Tomb Raider Anniversary, GTA III games including Vice City and San Andreas will probably run fine too.
Just expect to drop resolution or sacrifice quality in a lot of cases, but games still run fine. -
oblivion looks really nice though i wish it would work.

dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
you should be able to run nfs carbon
because i could run it on high(forgot what res) on my
p4 2.8ghz w/ht
1gb ram
nvidia fx52000
xp pro -
mattireland It used to be the iLand..
Give CounterStrike:Source a go and there's also this new game coming built especially by EA for people without the newest and most up to date systems called Battle Field Heroes or something ( http://www.battlefield-heroes.com/) It looks really nice and I'd definitely recommend giving it a go when it comes out Summer 2008 because it's free as well!

Yeah, try Oblivion. I played it on my old Asus X51R with a Ati 1100 128mb graphic card and it played well, on a very low setting of course lol, yours will perform much better on it!
try it!! a great game indeed since you like open-vast environment!!
Sadly though, Oldblivion doesnt work on Shivering Isle or version 1.2.. if u plan to update your oblivion version.
Dont worry so much about your graphic card, its 256MB and there are a load of games that can be played for it; OLD and NEW!!
Some recommendation: Dark Messiah 3, Jade Empire, Sudeki, Fable Lost Chapter, The Orange Box, Dungeon Lords, KOTOR series, Neverwinter Nights 1, Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines,
and Sid Meier's Pirates! (Currently playing and very addictive! ArrrRR!!!)
Another game that i really recommend that has vast-open environment is STALKER: Shadow Of Chernobyl. Its an FPS game but with an bit RPG element. Played it with Mods such as Oblivion Lost 2.0 !!!
Just some suggestion on your ram, upgrade it toward 2GB RAM or at least 1.5GB to have some better performance increase for open environment game.. Just in case, its better safe than sorry -
i will check out each of the games mentioned and consider the memory upgrade. -
:O I've got a 6200 too :O
Lets see, Guild Wars Runs fine, Black and White 2 runs well also. -
Anyway, my desktop system is a bit weaker other than the fact that it has a 7300 GT in it. (6200 vs 7300 benchmarks anyone?) I've moved all my games onto my notebook ever since it arrived, but my desktop was still capable of playing all games on low settings.
AMD Athlon 1.8GHz
GeForce 7300 GT
1 GB RAM <-- very old, slow RAM
I still managed to play Crysis on 1152x864 with everything set to low with about 25~ fps. C&C3 was more of a pleasure to play. With everything at high other than shaders, and AA off, it was very smooth. I didn't use anything to measure the fps, but it definitely averaged around 30 fps. TF2 gets me 20 - 50 fps with most settings on medium - high, and no AA or AF.
My sisters play Oblivion & Sims 2 on it too. Oblivion runs fine on medium detail at 1280x1024. The frame rates are decent. Gets a little bit choppy at times, but it's fine. For Sims 2, everything's set on high with no AA. It runs fine except it gets choppy too at times, though I'm wondering if it's due to the CPU or the GPU which is unable to handle it.
game recommendations for my new computer!
