Whenever I play a game that automatically lowers the resolution on my Dell Inspiron 6400 (native is 1680x1050), my screen doesn't automatically reset the resolution upon closing, and when I change it manually myself, I'm told that I have to restart to get the higher resolution. (The advanced "after I change display settings" option is set to "apply the new display settings without restarting.") I'm running the x1400 graphics card. Is this an issue that I can fix, or do I just have to live with it? Restarting every time I play a game or lower the resolution for any reason is kind of annoying...

well, you have to restart in order to move a resolution up... since it cannot take in effect until you restart..

you can select the "apply" without restarting but that can give glitches... its better if you just restart... or play all games and work at the same resolution

to my knowledge there is no way to change this...

What's the reason for that? Is that an LCD thing then? I was always able to go up/down/whatever I wanted on my old CRT monitor without restarting...

yeah could be because of the LCDs emulating (they are fixed pixels) different resolutions.. but then again.. I don't see why it shouldn't be technical possible to do this without a reboot..

Hmm...it seems like that may have solved the problem. Thanks for the idea, Chaz.

Or maybe not...it worked for a couple of hours, and now today it's back to making me restart again. Any other ideas?
